My friends went on holiday to the Canaries today and I drove them to Bristol airport.
Just drove in, stopped at the express drop off area, waited for them to fish luggage out and said bye, have a nice time, then drove out again.
Took less than 5 minutes and it cost me a pound.
They certainly know how to make money.
Is it the same at all airports.

MT, did you drop off your friends right in front of the airport building or to the side where there is a very short term car park and drop off point? I only ask because the drop off car park gives you a free 10 minutes. Passengers walk through a short covered walkway and enter into the arrivals area. It's such a small airport that everywhere is a short distance to walk whether for departures or arrivals.
I've used BA several times and usually use a small local car park to park up for the duration. The owners have a people carrier and drop me off in the above car park and when I arrive back I call them after I've passed through baggage collection and they send out a driver to pick me up. They just whizz in, load up and off they go without being charged. If you are collecting your friends you might want to suggest the same to them to save you the £1.
As for other airports, I've not heard of people being charged just for a drop off either at Gatwick or Heathrow, although it's not always possible to "drop" people off at T5 H/row as they only allow buses to drop off.

£1.00 isn't too bad really.
Heathrow is awful, Gatwick isn't that much better but Stansted is best I think. Doesn't cost
anything there if you're quick.

Llasa, that is how is used to be, but they have recently changed it.
You have to go through a ticketless barrier which reads your number plate and you pay on exit.
There is no stopping allowed anywhere from the roundabout to any of the car parks.
Obviously, this is to stop people avoiding the charge

MT, I used the car parking area to the right of the building a few days after New Year and it was free within the 10 minute time frame, so can only guess they have just changed it.
Yes, you're right there's no stopping anywhere along the route to the car parks, all double yellows.
