DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hi all, pippy_oak here, posting under my brand new user name. Hopefully, Richard will pin this thread, as it seems a nice tidy place to pose specific questions about a book (Is it a 1st edition, what's it worth, where to find it etc. etc.) Don't just come here with a question. If you think you have the answer, then let's hear it.

Or we could just mooch around and learn a few things.

Cheers

Paul

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Talwin Morris only produced book covers for Blasckie, and their subsidiary, Gresham (as far as I know). He may have also done some cover work for the Studio magazine.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Had it for years. Bought at a boot fair for a pound. Leather-bound, a few fold-out maps of the Holy Land, front page replaced at some time. This is the title page...

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hi,

I'm really looking for some reassurance here. I have a book (cased - ISBN 0 75070 113 7) Educational Policy for the Pluralist Democracy by Mark Holmes. It is dated 1992 so presume it is a first ed. as it says inside 'First published 1992.

I seem to remember listing this many moons ago and it didn't sell. Being slightly older and wiser, I've now taken your advice and looked on book sites for prices, and this one is commanding over £60...way over in some cases. It seems such an insignificant book and I'm worried about asking these prices.....

Please help. 🙂

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Eclectic, unless you're pulling my leg, what you have is a "Geneva" bible

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Bible

If it's in anything like presentable condition, do not accept less than £1000 for it. It will fly on ebay, but you must spend some time on thorough research, and do a really full description.

Ocristo. There are no copies of your book available for less than £36. The problem is that it's not exactly popular reading, so the right buyer may take a while to come along. It's one of those where you're going to get one bid, at best, so list it at near the market value.

Thanks Manor House. Just can't understand why it has such value with a 1992 publication date.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Thanks for that, Manor House. Without a good photo of your leg, I wouldn’t dream of pulling it. I can, however, photograph some more pages from my bible. Is it a Geneva bible? From the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Bible link supplied, these seem to be the important differences…
“To compare the Geneva Bible with the King James, here is Revelation 6: 12-17 in both versions (with spelling modernised). The differences have been italicised in the King James extract...”
This are photos of the described extracts from my bible…

What do you think? I may well have cocked-up taken the wrong photos through pure excitement/the second bottle of cheap wine consumed…

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Can you post a clearer scan of verses 12-17 please? (your final scan, but closer up.

I jumped at the Geneva Bible, mainly because of the date, and also the title page engraving was the same.

'Right click and zoom in' works for me, but I am on a very old system (ME) running on on Firefox, so this might not work for everyone...

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Yes, it's definitely the Geneva Bible.

When you've finished celebrating, do let the Board know what your plans are.

I would suggest that you have quite a bit of research to do, identifying the printer, making sure it's all there etc. etc.
