eBay is misguiding buyers with its shipment updates. eBay takes data from shipping company websites and processes their records looking for certain keywords, then presents a simplified version of the tracking to the buyers. However the algorithm is not perfect and the buyers are missing important information.
Royal Mails website shows the shipment held at the customs waiting for a buyer to pay UK VAT, however eBay website simply shows "delivery attempted" which is a complete lie. An angry buyer (who never opened Royal mail's website) then goes to a seller to complain a shipping company that has never called or tried to deliver.

Hi depo010, thanks for your post.
If an item is being held at customs, tracking updates on eBay shouldn't show as "delivery attempted" if you are seeing that, could you please confirm the item number, so I can take a look for you and report it if needed?
Thank you,
Marco

Hi depo010, thanks for you reply.
I was checking for you there and there is no transaction on this account under that ID. Was this order placed on a different account?
Thank you,
Marco
