While using the app (Android) I went to a page that asked me to log in again as I'd been signed out.
When I submitted my credentials I was asked to choose a verification option. I chose an app notification. The page changed I got no notification that I could see, so I selected 'Other ways to verify' and selected text message. I received the text and was able to verify.
However now when I go into the app a page comes up for a verification request saying 'We need to verify it's you'. Presumably this was meant to be the earlier notification. It gives the device, location and time of the requets and Approve and Deny buttons. Selecting either of these presents an error saying 'We ran into a problem. Please try again later.'
I tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling, and after I logged back in again I got the same verification request and get the same result when using the Approve / Deny buttons.
What can I do to fix this?

Ditch the app.
Switch if you can to a laptop / PC and use Chrome, that combo seems to work well, try to verify your account from there , hopefully it's more successful.

If this happens to anyone else, the issue seems to have resolved itself with no further action other than waiting for a while.

I feel for you the verification is really annoying and only benefits ebay.
It should ask for verification when you want to add an address or change a password. Anyone trying to access accounts to steal items would need to send them to a new address. So constantly asking people to verify every time they use the site serves no purpose other than to annoy customers.
