Flagging in New Messaging System

Hello.

I am trying to go back to messages flagged by me in the past for organisation purposes.  When a message needs to be responded to in the future, I add a flag to the message. Otherwise I have to go through each message to come back to it. This would be a total waste of time.

In the new system, however, I have not been able to find any messages previously flagged by me. It seems flagging functions have disappeared. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

If the flagging functionality does not exist in the new system, is there a way for eBay to re-introduce the function?

Kind regards

Flagging in New Messaging System

Morning maplelaneart,

I've just had a tramp around my messages and can find no way at all of flagging messages, so it does appear that functionality has not been included in the new messages system.

Firstly, if you haven't already provided Feedback on the new layout I would recommend you do - 'Updated messages feedback' link on the bottom right-hand corner of the Messages screen. It may not make any difference but if enough negative feedback is received maybe, just maybe, eBay will reconsider their ridiculous "improvement".

Secondly, in response to your question as to whether the functionality can be re-introduced, I'd put money on an official response of "this is being considered for a future update". Whilst you could ask at one of the Wednesday Weekly Chat sessions (it's an hour of your time you will never get back) it might be quicker to ask the Community Team direct, so:

dave@ebay  marco@ebay  kat@ebay  Is there anything in the pipeline to introduce (or actually re-introduce) the functionality to flag messages in the new Messages system?

Finally, as a temporary measure (or possibly a permanent one if the system isn't corrected) the only other thing I can suggest is that you move any messages which you would otherwise flag into a custom folder. Beware though, that there is not only a limit on the number of Folders you can create (5 I think it is) but they cannot (currently) be deleted.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tag @thesmokingrunner

@maplelaneart

Regarding the flagged messages we have raised this with the development team for the new messaging system.  They have advised they will be making future enhancements to the design and once there is any announcements on that we will let the community know.

For now there is the option to create custom folders as thesmokingrunner has advised.

Thank you,

Kat

If it isn't functional why release it?

Surely the basic functions of the old system should be included with any release.

If you have eBay messages from members forwarded to an email address, use your email program to flag those messages in your email inbox.

You forgot "will be ... at an unspecified date".  Complete lack of accountability.

It must be hugely frustrating to be a community staffer with zero power to influence.  Just as it's hugely frustrating for the rest of us to see these responses that are effectively meaningless promises.  Why is this gap never called out at the Wednesday afternoon sessions?

Also if someone has messaged me about an order there is no way to go straight to the order and have to copy and paste their username into orders page which is a waste of time. You used to be able to 'see order details' for anyone who messaged who had made an order. Can we have this returned please.

Hi @captainplanet_hes_a_hero ,

I understand and we have raised about the order details also to the team. We will continue to flag the points raised and ask that everyone continue to leave feedback for the team by clicking on the " updated messaging feedback" link on the bottom right of the " my messages" screen.

They have explained they are working on future enhancements. We don't have a date but once we have more details we will share here.

Thank you,

Kat

'If it isn't functional why release it...?'

Exactly! It's all very well going on about what will be done to improve things, and 'future enhancements' etc etc - the point is WHY was this drastically different system introduced when no-one had a problem with the old messages layout? If the majority of users would prefer the old layout, it should be reinstated.

Are you being sarcastic?  I mean, you've been an ebay user for well long enough to know how it goes.

When was the last time a revamp of something already fit for purpose was rolled out, forced on users, users screamed, (with me so far?  lots of ticks on your bingo card, right?) and then ebay rolled back to the previous version? (ah, bin that card)

I sometimes wonder if they even have a version control system, perhaps they simply don't have the basic tech to make roll back easy.

You must be psychic, John. See Message #10 ...

As for why the gap is never called out at the Wednesday sessions - it has been, by both me and others, and not only was my question removed but it was then intimated in a PM that if I asked anything similar in future I would be taking an unplanned holiday from here. And I have a feeling this post may suffer the same fate.

And as for your comment "I sometimes wonder if they even have a version control system" in Message #12 - now who's being sarcastic? : )

Flagging in New Messaging System

Ebay, Buyers messages are going to get missed if you can't flag them!

This is going to cause us to let customers down. We always flag to prompt for us to respond to an ongoing query/get back to a customer with information.

The filing in a folder option is clunky. And doesn't show clearly who needs responding to when in a folder.

And once you have dealt with it you can't then get it OUT of the folder. So you can't see the customers that need attention there either.

Help

At least let us choose to go back to the old messaging system until the new one is right.
