Ebay can’t verify bank account

I have had this ebay account since 2002 and the same bank account for the last 15+ years but somehow it asks me to update my bank account details. I have done so but i receive a message that my bank account details can't be verified.

Hi raymonduk, thanks for your post.

I can see that your bank account still hasn't been added to your eBay account, so for this I'd recommend adding the bank account first by going to your Payment section here, and then scroll down and click on the + sign that says "Add cards and accounts" please note that you need to enter your bank account number, and not your card number, which should be different. Also, ideally, you'd need to do this from the browser of your phone or computer, as the app might not support this feature. If you still get issues adding your bank account, please let me know and I'll be happy to help as much as I can.

I have tried this in Safari on an iPhone and it returns a message 'We couldn't verify this bank account. Please select an different payment method'

By any chance is the account that you are trying to add savings account, online only account? Or is it a joint account and somebody else's name is on it?

It may be the device and browser you are using, i phones and apps don't always have all the options you require.

To add your bank account use a PC / laptop and use Chrome that's the best browser,  then add those details here:

Hi Marco,

It's just a current account. I have two more eBay accounts that use the same bank account fine. 

I have also tried this on a Mac using Safari and Chrome with the same result. I can start up in Windows and try it from within there later.

I've just scrolled up to your first post again, the notification ' Update your account details' we all have received this,  and even with using the same bank account for years,  even decades ,  if you have returned to selling a after a long break,  there have been some big changes on eBay.  PayPal is no longer used for the receiving of payouts from sales,  eBay Manage Payments now.

All sellers have to register for eBay's Managed Payments, see here:

You need to provide eBay with details of a bank account you wish to use for reciving payouts from sales, as this may be different from the one already registered,  and have this account verified.  The usual method here, is for eBay to send 2 micro deposits into that nominated bank account for you to receive,  and confirm to eBay.

Have you received those micro deposits?  If not , this is probably the issue here.

Once this is completed,  you will be able to list items for sale,  and receive payouts from those sales.

If you can only use a PC / laptop to manage the above, Chrome seems to work best too.

I can buy and sell fine. I just don't get payments as my bank details need updating which isn't working. 

There is some money in there from something I've sold which is on hold until bank details have been updated. 

The same bank account is working fine on my other two eBay accounts.

There was a technical issue preventing members from adding their bank accounts, it was resolved, so this should work for you. However, since you're unable to add your bank account, I reckon your account is still being impacted. So, I've just decided to report your account as still being impacted by this technical issue, so the tech team can get that fixed for you.

Hi raymonduk, hope you had a good weekend.

If you go ahead, and go to the red banner that is prompting you update your account details, and click on the "update account details" link on the red banner, you will see a section asking you to log in with your bank. I've just double checked, and your bank is included in the list, so you should be able to add and verify your bank account that way. Please try this again from a broswer, and let me know if it works for you, as I've been confirmed that it should work for you now.

Hi Marco,

I have clicked on the banner, logged into my bank account from there. Everything seems good, it's showing my bank details, balance etc but after the screen where I tick the box that I'm the account holder and press continue it comes up with the same red banner error.

Strangely enough on both my other account it all works fine.

I've just got confirmation that you would need to add a different bank account, and this is due to the fact that the same bank account has been added to different eBay accounts, and the same bank account cannot be used for more eBay accounts.

However, this doesn't seem the case as the other two accounts work fine. Selling, buying and getting paid. 

I only have one bank account so there's no way of adding a different account. 

If this bank account is not linked why does eBay allow me to sell items with this account? And what happens to the money that can't be transferred to my bank?

You can still use that bank account for the other 2 accounts. However, you cannot use the same bank account for any more accounts, I'm afraid, which is why you get the error in question. The funds will remain in your eBay account until you are able to add a different account, they will then be sent to you as usual.

I won't be opening another bank account just for this eBay account.

I do however think it's wrong eBay lets me sell items knowing they can't provide payout so the money will just go to eBay after October 14.

The question is, why would eBay let me sell if they know there is no payout account linked. The bank account is linked as eBay does take money out of there when I create a listing
