App not working, says update and won't.  Just stuck in a loop of trying to update and it saying it has the latest version. Whatever you did put it back the way it was

iOS 15 and Android 9 are not current operating systems though in the eyes of Google and Apple. They are obsolete, no longer updated and can pose a security risk.

It is entirely possible that there is something in ebays app that is a security risk if used on older operating systems. Just because other apps still work - it doesn't mean its right. For all we know, all the other apps ARE a security risk if they still run on older OS.

It is estimated that around 3-5% of users would be on those OS systems - so developers have a choice. Do they risk a potential security or software issue for that percentage of the user base?

I use an iPad mini 4 and an iPhone X everyday and list items and buy items almost everyday on eBay mobile app. Now I can’t use either of these devices to look at my eBay account as it is stuck in an update loop, even though it clearly says time and time again with a pop up window that older versions can be I downloaded and installed on older devices. EBay tech suggest you either upgrade your device so that it is compatible with iOS 17 or use your browser. Great, very helpful, so essentially I have to fork out £450 for a new iPad and a further £400 for a new iPhone 12 or upwards minimum……….. Ridiculous! Also, the Browser loads way to slowly and is far from as user friendly as the mobile app………. Throwing away a large customer base who cant afford up to date devices is wasteful, elitist and financially insane! It doesn’t make any logical sense.

Am on iPad air 2 had no trouble until this afternoon not happy as I do  my shopping on here way more than any other site. Am on 15 as downloading. Some warning would have been  good. Needs to be sorted as that’s the only app version there is on the Apple store.

The issue is the OS. You are on an obsolete OS that eBay’s app no longer supports (nor does Apple as iOS 15 no longer receives security updates)

if you can’t update the OS on your device unfortunately you’ll have to either get a new device or use eBay in an internet browser.

So eBay expect sellers/buyers to purchase a new updated phone to use their platform?

eBay doesn't want people who can't afford or don't want to update their perfectly usable Android 9 or less phones to run the eBay app.

Personally, I can do without the app and it will save me money on impulse buys.

I have no intention of buying any new device. If am unable to use ebay then
they are the looser as people will find other outlets.

Agreed - it is a shambles and a liberty to expect people to do that, apparently as an alternative you can just use the browser?

I have used the browser. It works much the same as the app but takes me
longer to get signed in.

The eBay app was never a great experience and the website is similarly
poor. I will use eBay as a secondary source for purchases as Amazon is so
much easier to use and has generally quicker delivery.

I don't sell things on eBay so I don't know what effects not using the app
will have.

No effect,  I've never used the app,  always used a laptop for selling,  no issues there.

I just preferred having the app as it was easier for me to check on but am
no way updating my devices to accommodate them simply because they (
screwed up) they can get lost.
I think they will find that they will have to buck up their ideas .

I have just come across the same issue. I have a Galaxy A30s and I cannot use the Ebay app now as I cannot update beyond  android 9

Pretty much everyone is having this issue regardless of what device they
have. They need to get that sorted otherwise they will loose multiple
amounts of customers .

In case you missed Kat's earlier announcement, here it is:

The latest eBay app version is no longer compatible with android 9 and below. It actually requires OS android 10 and above. If you have another device with android 10 and above you can check the most recently updated eBay app version and see if you can view images.

If you are using OS android 10 and above and still have issues with viewing images on the app please let me know. State what version you use and type of device and I'll have it looked into further by tech.

The Galaxy A30s supports Android 11 so just update to the latest OS.

I’m on IOS 18.1.1  no problems straight on to the app, but occasionally get a spinning ball. My iPhone is 13 pro max

Seems if you have ios 16 (iphone 8 onwards) you can install an older version as per link below. This worked for my wife`s iphone 8+

As for my iphone 7 it looks like i need a newer phone or make do with the browser.
