Why does ebay feel the need to make so much profit. People are having a hard time.

I like that item you have for sale, but I'm going through some tough times due to the pandemic. All I can afford to pay is £10. I know you can do that for me, so thanking you in advance.

How do you know what profits ebay make, from the way they are behaving it sometimes gives the impression that all is not well with ebay.

Why do you sell on ebay? If the idea is to make a profit, how would you feel if you were asked to reduce your prices because buyers were short of money.

Ebay provide a Market Place, if you don't like the fees then don't sell. You have been on ebay a long time and I can tell you that fees were more when you joined as there was a listing fee for every item, whether it sold or not.
