When is it safe to assume customer is not going to return an item

Hi, I sold a mobile phone on here a while ago. The customer requested a return as it wasn't working.

I messaged him to find out what was wrong and it turns out all it needed was a hard reset.

I asked him to do a reset of the phone and try again and it worked. However he wasn't happy so I accepted the return. Ebay gave him untill yesterday 24th June to return it. He hasn't done so.

Is it safe to assume that the sale is now complete? I have left the money in PayPal ready to refund up to now. Or should I wait for eBay to say it's complete? He has had it for over a month now, which is plenty of time to return it imho.

Never had a return before so not sure how it all works.

Wait for it to close naturally. The worst thing you can do is interfere with the case asit can provoke a refund without any return.

Very wise to leave money in paypal, but in fact once a case is opened it is frozen so just wait it out and it will eventually be released.
