All they are really after is your email address so they could send you a fake message that you have been paid.

Always log into paypal to see that money is in your account and take the address to which you post from the Paypal payment.

yes its a scam and if its the X230 you have a bid so you cannot sell it to them - ignore and block them.

In addition to the information already given in this thread, it may well be worthwhile reporting this person to eBay and making them aware of what he/she was trying to do, just in case he/she tries the same stunt on other sellers and they end up getting scammed as a result.  The more reports that eBay have about a buyer that would suggest to them that something is not as it should be the more likely they are to monitor the buyer's account for any suspicious activity, although they won't tell you what, if anything, they have actually done in relation to the matter.

In case you are unfamiliar with how to contact eBay Customer Services there is a Help & Contact link both at the top and the bottom of the page.  Click on either of those links and a new page will load up.  Scroll right down to the bottom of the page and click on the mobile phone icon where it says "Need more help?  Have us call you."

Shortly after you have done that you will receive a telephone call from an eBay representative.  Explain to the person at eBay exactly what has happened, making sure that you give him/her the User ID of the person in question and ask the eBay representative to check the message that this person sent you so as to back up your claims that he/she was trying to scam you.  eBay then ought to make a note of the matter, and if they do then it may well prove to be beneficial to other sellers if they do end up getting scammed and they subsequently end up having to report the same person to eBay, as the more reports that the buyer has racked up for this type of behaviour the more chance there is that eBay will catch up with him/her sooner or later and throw him/her off of the site, or suspend the account that he/she used to contact you on if they suspect that this person is using a hacked account in order to conduct the scam.
