Hi,
Ok, I have been using RM C&D since January (late to the party) so trying really had to make it as efficient as it can be ( sure lacks some features - but trying to make the best of a flawed system)
I like the idea that when an order comes through - the system (Through pre -set-up shipping rules) it can say - "this order weighs this much (it knows the weight from import of products with weights) Knows the type - large letter / small parcel etc - knows the cost - knows customs - knows the service (1st class / tracked etc) - awesome!
Voila - an order comes in, all is accounted for - goes straight into "ready to generate labels" So after 50+ orders come in -all I need to think about is picking products / printing the labels in one click -(50 print off) and putting the them on the correct packets.
This saves so much time!
Ok, now this is great - for those that order 1 item per customer - these items I sell are small and very very light - the jiffy /packing slip weighs more than the product - sometimes by 3 times as much.
Ok so lets say I have a 6g product + 15g for jiffy and paperwork - total 21g
So under the weight of product (under product catalogue as stored in Click and drop) do I put 6g or do I put 21g?
Now please do not say - it is all ok if under 100g - as if this if international a 1g difference puts it into a different cost tier. So I need to be exact here. I need to be exact! 🙂
Ok, so at this stage I have 1 packet that weights 21g - fine - exact and ideal - priced and weighed fine. The printed label will be correct and I can sleep at night.
Here is the problem:
If the weight for each item includes the jiffy weight then if said customer orders a quantity of 2 (for example)
Then 2 x 6g (12g) + 2 x 15g (jiffy) - the weight is now 42g a label will be generated for 42g - when infact 15g is the jiffy x 2 when only now one jiffy is used and I must deduct 15g of the total weight.
So this simply makes shipping rules 50% effective - as any with a qty of 2 or more of the same or even 2 different items - the weight is always out. I now have to waste time hunting / resetting and fixing ALL orders that were pre set, to new - so I can fix - this really is now wasting time I tried to hard to save.
So tell me - please anyone - how do I work around this?
When Royal Mail ask for weight of a product, in the product catalogue or imports / do I put the weight of the product and not include the weight of packing /jiffy? That would make the actual weight of the products 100% regardless of how many
YET If I do not include this weight of the jiffy / packing slip/ carboard packing etc -then when then do I put it?
Has anyone a solution? Suggestion?
Thank you
Scott
I think you would be better going to the discussion boards and asking on a business selling forum.
