I've just had notification that a buyer hasn't received an item. I'm not suggesting that it's definitely a false claim but (a) my experience of Royal Mail is that they are very good and (b) this buyer has quite a record of leaving negative feedback.
I would like to notify eBay so that they can keep an eye on him but it appears that I can only do this by saying that it is a tracked item with a tracking number which it isn't as it was sent as a large letter by second class.
I don't like to think ill of anyone so shall I just block him and refund him and move on?
You've been a member for 17 years, with over 400 sales in the last year alone. Surely you realise that it's up to you to prove delivery by using a tracked service?
Your buyer may well be telling the truth - items can and do get lost in the post. We know from questions asked here that doorstep theft of parcels signed for and left by the driver is growing, not to mention tracking records that claim delivery when items had actually been lost or misdelivered (this has happened to me twice, when supposedly "delivered" items were found elsewhere).
If you don't follow eBay's procedures for using tracked delivery there's no point in asking eBay to "keep an eye" on buyers who report items not received. They won't be interested.
Things do get lost in the post!
Some buyers only seem capable of Negative Feedback and don't bother about the good transactions.
You have no choice, if they have opened a Not Received case then ou refund through the case and get a refund of the selling fee. Do not refund any other way, if buyer has not opened a case, then you don't refund as ou do not get the selling fee refunded.
If te buyer has not opened a case then it is possible that they have opened too many and already come to the attention of ebay, but NO CASE, NO REFUND.
All troublesome buyers or any that cause concern should be added to your blocked bidders list, better safe than sorry.
If you can't prove delivery then you may aswell refund now and block them.
If they then leave you negative feedback report them to ebay at the same time highlighting all of the other negs they have left; you then stand a chance of yours being removed and possibly the others.
No guarantee though.
