I placed the advert with a starting bid of 50 (which has now been bid for), and a but it now of 90. However, the buy it now tab does not appear on the advert according to other bidders, but is listed below the starting bid when I go back into it.

As ruby said, the BIN option disappears the second someone places a bid. Naturally, or there would be no point in anyone bidding. No-one would waste their valuable time doing so if someone could come along at any time and BIN.
Adding a BIN option to an auction is generally a waste of time (and money, as you pay for the option whether it's used or not). Very few buyers will BIN when they can possibly get the item cheaper by placing a bid. So best to start your auctions at the minimum price you're happy to accept. 🙂
