I've tried unsuccessfully to remove automatic relisting cannot find a box to tick and cannot find more actions. Would really appreciate anyone's help as it's driving me crazy.

When you list an item, after selecting Sell go top right and use the advanced / business listing tool.
Ignore that it says it's for business and high volume sellers only, it isn't, it's for everyone to use.
That gives you more control over your account, and you can there, untick that auto relist box.
