Hi. I have just sold something and when I chased for payment so I could get the item in the post so it would be received for Chrstimas I receivegd a message from the Buyer saying "Hello! I bid it for a friend who's arranging the finances for the payment." What should I do?
If the winning bidder does indeed turn out to be a timewaster then open an Unpaid Item Dispute as soon as you get the chance to do so. If the buyer doesn't pay by the time you get the chance to close the case then close the Unpaid Item Dispute and your eBay Final Value Fees will be credited back to your account. The buyer's account will then be hit with an Unpaid Item Strike, so make sure that you add his/her User ID to your Blocked Bidders List. If you are unsure as to how to do so click on this link https://offer.ebay.co.uk/isapi.dll?bidderblocklogin and add the User ID to the big white box that appears on the screen. Once you've done that click on the Submit button beneath that box and the buyer will not be able to purchase anything else from you in the future and waste any more of your time.
Should you still wish to sell the phone on eBay after you've closed the dispute and have had your eBay Final Value Fees refunded you can make a Second Chance Offer to one of the bidders who lost the auction. If the person you send the Second Chance Offer to decides to buy the phone then you will still end up with a sale, albeit for slightly less money than you would have got if the winning bidder hadn't messed you around. Just don't go sending a Second Chance Offer before you've closed the Unpaid Item Dispute, otherwise if the person who won the auction pays for the item and the Second Chance Offer bidder also accepts the offer to buy it as well then you'll have two separate buyers staking a claim to the item, in which case you'll have to cancel one of the sales and would more than likely receive some negative feedback from a very cheesed off buyer who feels that you've reneged on the deal.
