Ebay illegally withholding monies unless I give them my bank details.

Just off the phone with eBay.  They are withholding funds for something I sold during the time they were switching payment systems.  It is not now possible to sell anything on their platform without eBay having bank details but back in 2022 it was.  Just spoke to Regina in their 'senior leadership team' who told me they cannot let me have access to my money unless I give them my bank details.  I suggested they send me a cheque but she said it was impossible.  The funds are on my account but frozen and inaccessible.  When I asked to speak to someone more senior she said she was the most senior person I could speak to.  I then asked for the name of the director responsible for her department and was told she was the most senior person I could access, she reiterated that I couldn't have my money unless I gave my bank details to eBay and HUNG UP!!!!!!  Sure this is illegal to try and extort my bank details?

No, it's not illegal. Your money gets paid into your bank - the only way you can get it. So if you don't give them your bank details, you won't get paid.

It's all about managed payments now.Unless you register for that and get it fully sorted Ebay can't pay you in any way.

I'm surprised you were even able to list anything without doing so.

Why are you so bothered? If you give them your sort code and account number, all they can do is pay money INTO your account. There is nothing illegal or extortionate about it. Using inlammatory language like that, I'm not surprised you were disconnected.

BUT - when they took the post bank details were not required - PayPal was effectively the bank prior to the change of rules and they had my PayPal account - therefore the funds should not be frozen? I don't even need them to send it to me just use it when I buy something!!!!

They've had my money since 2022!!!!! I suspect it was during their implementation stage when they hadn't got the back office systems lined up with the rules.  They should be able to just unfreeze the funds.  I would not now sell on eBay because they want my bank details .... I don't trust their systems.

Re: Ebay illegally withholding monies unless I give them my bank details.

Bank account has been the only payment method for quite some time now. It started in 2020!

Edit: I didn't realise you meant they still had the money from 2022 😮

No - they've frozen it and won't let me use it unless I give them my bank details!
So ridiculous

I think maybe you need a solicitor's letter. That's pretty disgraceful to freeze it that long 😞
