It's nothing to do with eBay - it's Royal Mail charging for any home collection, whether it's done through eBay (Simple Delivery or 'custom') or directly using their site.
It only changed on 1st of the month, which is why you wouldn't have been charged for it before.

I know. The thing is most of my things are RM Large Letter so very convenient for me. So it's gone full circle with printing labels at home and taking them back to the post office. There is no way I'm paying 30p for them to collect large letter items it's a joke.......!

If it's just large letter you can use postboxes instead and use the Royal Mail app to get proof of postage (you scan the QR code with your phone before posting it). The standard little postboxes don't allow for the full width of the large letter format however but they all accommodate the 25mm thickness.

except the postage prices are dearer!!

It's still free to get them to collect if buying via ebay custom and choosing tracked 48 collect for example, the price is the same.

How does this work with scanning the QR code yourself and posting it? Which postboxes are you referring to?

i send about 30 parcels a week and have them collected.........the post office labels are nearly £1 dearer than other carriers as it is.....but with my parcels being collected, that seemed fair....but now, with this extra 30 p cost per item , i wont be using royal mail again..........

With over 110,000 available around the UK, Postboxes are ideally suited for a quick and easy local drop off option for your parcels. Available 24/7 for your convenience.
NEW! Now you can get proof of posting when you post a parcel at any postbox or parcel postbox. All you need is the Royal Mail app - two clicks and you're done.
There are two main types of Postboxes that can be used to drop off your parcels:
Regular Postboxes
These postboxes are not just for letters! They're a great drop off option for your small parcels (if they can fit through a letterbox).
Parcel Postboxes
If your parcel is too big for a regular postbox but still no larger than 44cm x 35cm x 16cm then our Parcel Postboxes may be the perfect solution.
So why not Buy your postage online via the app or website, print your label, drop it in to your nearest Postbox and get Proof of Posting.

Can't understand the people saying they are fine with paying for collection, and Royal Mail have to cover costs. What costs exactly? The postie who picks up our orders is the same guy who delivers my mail. He is there regardless. No costs. Time? It takes him one or two minutes? We are rural, there is no post office (it closed over a year ago). We have a post box. Parcels don't fit. The delivery office is in the city and only open for two hours a day.
Then there are issues, before, we could add to the collection which meant customers placing orders in the 12 hours before your collection who get processed. I don't think they changed the cut off of midnight did they?

Not all collections are made by the regular postie though. Our postie uses a hand cart (won't get many parcels in there) so most collections would need to be made separately using a van. If the van isn't already in the area delivering parcels then that will incur extra costs in fuel, etc.
Also, if the extra time taken per collection is 1-2 minutes then that equates to 20-40p at minimum wage.

I agree. Our postie comes just with his mailbag. For heavier items, Royal Mail send the van at a different time. In addition to this, we are in an area whereby Royal Mail do not deliver every day (despite living inner city and ‘just up the road’ from the delivery office) so often they come just to collect and not deliver. For collection items, I buy my label on ebay as there is no charge yet for collection (same goes for collecting a return from an ebay generated label) but even if/when the 30p charge comes, I still think its worth it as it is convenient and saves me time which I value more (plus if Im out, items are collected from my safe place)

I've jusr been booking the collection off of some sales that are not simple delivery and then the postie collects the others as well. I think ebay has messed up here and when we select courier it should give the option for collection or drop off like we get for custom delivery?

I have changed to yodel door to door. Just started this week so unsure how the service will be. I average 5 parcels a day, some of which can be heavy and large so not an option to schlep to the post office. They are working out over a £1 cheaper per parcel. The proof will be in the pudding. Royal Mail are not that great either. I'm still awaiting compensation for 2 damaged and 1 lost parcel from March 🙄
