general returns rant

Quick rant if I may be so bold..

1. why is it when you get a return for a higher ticket item ie laptop or PC that the buyer opens the return after a while maybe after they have used it for 3 weeks then open a return then keep you waiting to almost the last day of the return before actually posting it ?

2. why is it now on accepting offers it says payment processing then payment does not clear  ?  Have noticed this a lot lately it used to work a treat now is just full of tyre kickers and time wasters..

3. One last thing why is it after actually buying said product and selling it by the time you have costed in product ebay fees, VAT and taxman the only people actually making money are ebay and the tax man.

4. one for luck does anyone ever think we will be able to sell outside UK again without needing 3 miles of red tape and 2000 hoops to jump through which clearly we cannot and now have zero sales to EU ?

asking for a friend 🙄

To be fair to the buyers, if they are leaving it until the last minute, it's still perfectly acceptable.

Generally people are busy and unless they need the money back quickly, they won't be in any great rush to drop it off.

For the payments, I think that your probably getting it slightly confused.

It's not so much that it doesn't clear, but that the customer doesn't pay!
The default should now be that they need to enter card details before bidding etc,but there are still quite a few out there that don't have this yet.
I get them occasionally, but nowhere near as often as previously.

Can't say much about the fees etc, if your not making a profit on something, then don't buy it to sell in the first place.  Find something different.
But you don't have to be the cheapest, to sell on here.  Unless your talking about mass produced type items and there are a hundred different sellers with the same item.

I'm still selling outside the UK.  Admittedly, not as much as previously.  But I very much doubt that the red tape will go away regardless.  But honestly, I don't find it that onerous at all.

Yes, some buyers are quite thoughtless when it comes to returns. Unless unforeseen circumstances cause a delay, 14 days should be more than long enough to decide if you want to start a return, never mind 30 days!

If I have to return an item, I'm mindful that the seller may have others interested in the item. Taking a month to start a return, then possibly up to another 10 days to get the item posted, is very inconsiderate, imo.

And the longer the buyer keeps the item, the more you suspect they have been using it/wearing it or whatever... 😬
