ebay Buyer Protection fee 2025 (PPI Scandal)

They've branded this new fee as "buyer protection", surely that is a massive mistake. Remember PPI! Buyer Protection is misleading branding. If ebay refunded the buyer for lost, damaged items "Buyer Protection" would be true... but they don't, the seller does. The buyer is being forced to pay something they do not need when ebay names this fee as such.

If this new future automated system with "Simple Delivery" also automatically refunded the seller from the postal provider, when an item stayed stuck in transit (clearly undelivered), without the seller needing to make a complex claim with the postal provider... this would actually be amazing! However, that's never going to happen.

As for them switching the fee from the seller to the buyer, there might actually be some psychology behind people willing to pay a bit more for something, if they know that's a separate fee form the provider, not just an over priced item, like they know they're paying for additional service outside of the item.

Re: ebay Buyer Protection fee 2025 (PPI Scandal)

I sold something this week that I would normally get 80p plus after bids. I received 1p. So if you know how I can get packaging and tape for 1p , then please let me know . Like I said a loss. Maybe I need to overcharge for postage like yourself. 👍

Re: ebay Buyer Protection fee 2025 (PPI Scandal)

Maybe you should!   I charge £4.00 for postage and the actual cost is £3.75 as i buy over the counter at the post office.  I see you sell jigsaws, just wonder, do you wrap in bubble wrap and put in a new bag or use a tatty bin liner with no protection?   All my clothes that i sell are wrapped in tissue paper before being put in a new bag.  So yes, i do take the 25p to help with packing costs.  My buyers do not seem to mind paying it - or they would not be buying from me.   I never sell anything under £3 so i would never just receive 1p for an item.  Maybe you should look at your own selling instead of worrying about my 25p!

Re: ebay Buyer Protection fee 2025 (PPI Scandal)

No problem with my selling . I’m now switching to other selling platforms.
Never had a single complaint about my selling , hence my 5s across the
board. Maybe you should actually talk some sense before posting in the 1st
place, then you wouldn’t get the replies . Why would I want to rip buyers
off by overcharging buyers with postage? As for my packing, they go in
boxes which is why my comments all say how well packed they are. I see you
are actually missing the point of the original post , but then that’s your
problem, as clearly you are happy to let buyers pay the extra costs when
they don’t need to by law.

What law do you mean, bearing in mind these are supposed to be private sales?

EBay have made a big mistake here!  It’s ridiculous.  Vinted have the right idea and now have their sights on stealing the market.

Re: ebay Buyer Protection fee 2025 (PPI Scandal)

Buyers already have buyer protection it's called 'Ebay Money Back Guarantee'

and  it's FREE, so why the extra 75p on each item + 4%.

If I sold 50 titles from one listing @ £2 each Ebay would then add £37.50 +£4

How can this be justified?
