I first posted on this last night and received dozens (possibly more than 100 in less than 24 hours) of emails and posts on seller centre and eBay community sharing my objection to eBay's new rip off Buyer Protection fees and delayed payment for sellers. Re: Buyer protection fees. Unilaterally imposed on all listed items including those listed by sellers before the February 4 changes. I wonder if this is illegal? It is almost certainly in breach of UK Trading Standards Laws - to unilaterally increase the price of an item, publicly advertised, days, weeks, months beforehand, without the seller's consent. I will be seeking pro bono legal advice. And may well move to another platform. eBay's actions are despicable, motivated purely by greed. BUYERS already had protection under the previous system. I have expressed these views to an eBay rep on the phone. If eBay had tidal wave of complaints and an exodus of items - removed from sale on eBay - maybe their powers that be might see sense and abandon this rip off policy.

I came across that thread and actually responded by asking why they were repeating the exact same thread they had already posted within the same hour! When i went back to see if there was a response the thread had gone....

I have been an eBay seller and buyer since 2013 and I too am disgusted with Ebay's buyer fee and delayed payment for sellers. It certainly seems very hooky. I am winding down my Ebay sales for the above mentioned reasons. I congratulate you on broaching the serious underhand tactics that Ebay have imposed on buyers and sellers alike.

And to add insult to injury as a buyer who had his win cancelled ebay are in no rush to protect me. Still waiting for my refund (seller refunded) 5 days on.

I notice that it is only for the UK, Rip-off Britain again.

This was exactly what i suspected. Could not agree more with your objections. AND I would say my sales are down by 75% However this is nothing less than I would expect from e.bay

Sadly I wouldnt hold your breath if you are expecting ebay to change their minds...they never like to lose face so there wont be any change back to the way it was before because in reality they dont care about any seller on ebay as long as their 10% fees keep coming in thats all they are concerned about! Remember this is an American company who are notorious for really awful policies!

yes that is why they filled warehouses up with chinese goods before Trump introduced the Tarrifs on imports . So they will be pushing chinese goods on buyers

Maybe not illegal but certainly devious, the way buyers from private sellers are duped by Ebay

my partner has been on ebay since 1998 and he has had enough now ,too much fiddling by ebay , listings dissapear or the price comes up in$ not £ ,a little boy appears saying oops there is a problem it is us not you . you have to keep signing in when you want to switch from one thing to another ,they got rid of turbo lister ,pay pal ,sellers can't leave negative feedback but buyers can ,and when you have a non payer ,they should make it that once you hit buy the money should be taken straight away from buyers account ,that would stop non payers ,ebay say that when you make an offer or bid you are making a commitment to buy but then the buyer doesn't pay and the seller has to wait before they can make a claim for non payment . Ebay have had it in for uk sellers for a long time and now they have gone too far .
