eBAYS POSITION ON POSTAGE IS STILL UNREASONABLE ON SO MANY LEVELS

Yes, eBay have today (5 September) made a concession on SD being optional on Large Letter posting up to to £20 providing weight is less than 100g.

This concession is of no use whatsoever to those sellers listing items that are OKAY in size for Large Letter but will weigh 150g, 200g etc.

I will agree it’s a gesture from eBay, but it’s not convincing enough for those that have left, delisted their items or those still thinking of moving away.

I haven't tried to list since their backtracking but how do they know if an item weighs 100g or less?
I sell a fair number of old magazines, usually for £5 or so plus postage, which is normally large letter but weight approx 750g
I removed everything from sale when they made SD compulsory and will only list again when I can choose my own postal service and ensure it's correct before being charged / printing a label.

I suppose it's trial and error this evening!

@derekmines it wouldn't be a proper ebay announcement if it wasn't ambiguous or just plain wrong would it? I tried listing a drill, which is now eligible for custom and of course you dont have to put a weight in. It's a step in the right direction, perhaps as much as we could hope for. It's definitely a win for consumer complaining.

There isn't any reference to a 100g limit.  It actually says "This includes items in categories like Trading cards, Coins and Stamps, which are typically letter or large letter-sized and 100g or under."  That is not the same as "Must be 100g and under."  It's sub-100g items where the difference in price between standard postage and Tracked 48, as used by Simple Delivery, is the greatest.

This is one of the issues where I have been agreeing with most of the posters on the mega-thread, where eBay needed to do something, and I'm glad to see that they have.

Hi @vinylscot we are fortunate they have changed it, but explaining it would be nice too. I've never understood the categories being part of the criteria. It was not originally, it has never been explained why it was added and we can just use a different category.

They still say the legacy postage tool will be retired and they must have plans for another new tool for non SD labels, so who knows what will happen next.

I can’t find the list of exempt from SD categories ….it seems to have disappeared from the help pages

does this mean you can list in any category now with custom postage if your item is under £20 and letterbox size…this would make logical sense

if not ,why have they removed it

I guess you can find out by listing , but it’s odd it’s not there anymore

eta I too was glad to get the email today

step in right direction for letterbox sized  items

Hi @edwardian-dreams you've been rather quiet lately. Whilst some drills can now be listed, the original style of drill i was moaning about still cannot (as of earlier today anyway) so I am still using the DIY category you pointed out. Who knows what they are really up to.

If ever I get a clear, concise and reasonable email from ebay then I know it will be an imposer scam attempt.

It's only the puzzling ebay emails with badly written nonsense that I will trust as being genuine.

Hi Sue Been abroad on holiday and sorting elderly family stuff so away longer than I thought

no thread killing or flooding the forums with my *bleep* lol 24/7

yeah use any category you can

its the only way to go if they can’t understand a drill bit is a tiny thing  or can’t be arsed to get around the admin to include it it shouldn’t be your problem

Laters

Ps as to what they’re really up to it seems they’ve caved due to pressure so it works

so let’s keep it up where it is still unreasonable

ie you’re allowed custom postage for a dvd but not a  tiny drill bit eg 🤣

So I’m pleased there is some change, but for me it’s still too muddled and confusing.

The process is time consuming and tedious, so like others I can’t be bothered.
Easier elsewhere .
