buyer wrote last night ... 'Hello! I’m interested in buying this - what sort of time tomorrow could you do if I wanted to collect it?'
.to me its a sale
he had sufficient sales to illustrate he knows the system yet is tyring a con job. teh item was 17.00 clear he lived nearby. hence he was coming to collect it. why do e-bay let these buyers get away with treating seller like this i wrote back twice and he never replied i waited & waited for him to purchase and write back etc. im not feeling well and not only trusted him i believed him

I don't understand what the issue is here? What con job do you think they are/were trying?

Did he pay for the item?

I am not sure either what the issue is. Has the buyer actually paid via ebay for the item? If they haven't paid via the correct route eg eBay then its not a sale. If this buyer turns up consequently do NOT release the item until you have put the collection code in to the system - They will only receive this once they have paid.

To me that's a message asking a question, it's not a sale until he has bought it through the listing.

If you wrote back and gave the potential buyer the times convenient , then it is up to him to contact you back to confirm and to complete the sale by making payment ... it is not sold until the item is paid for so your listing is still life and open to others 😉
If the potential buyer is not bothering to reply, that is on them, although they could have sent a quick message before going off to work or something else came up.. give them a day to respond and take it from there. If they do not buy, nothing lost , nothing gained other than it can be purchased by someone else 😉

By the by it always makes me laugh on FB when people say things like 'can collect in an hour is that OK'... well probably not since I'm at work like most people!

If the "buyer" has not paid, which I take it he hasn't, how does he know where to collect from?

The area would be on the listing - you can search for items local to you so they probably saw it was close and messaged the seller... there is no sale at this point, as far as I understand from the original poster. It is a waiting game until the buyer competes, then the collection address can be shared.
