Anyone noticed how eBay are now pointing out to buyers which of their items were sent untracked?
So helpful eBay.....
Of course this won't increase cases for INR will it....

I wonder what they base that on.
What if you bought tracked postage, not from ebay, and didn't enter tracking against the sale rightaway? Will ebay still send the 'untracked' message?
Also, is it linked to buying ebay postage or the tracking being entered against the sale?

I'm pretty sure it means the seller has not added any tracking to the sales record; no other explanation makes sense. This is presumably a punitive measure against sellers like myself who do not upload tracking - despite having it - to avoid being punished by eBay's fantasy EDDs.
Of course this will entice certain buyers to open INR cases even when they know full well they have received their item. This is probably exactly what eBay wants to happen - service metrics are counted against cases opened even if they're opened abusively. So it seems this is yet another stick for eBay to beat it's sellers with.

I have wondered why that is? But why would Ebay want INR to happen?
I only use tracked ( Royal Mail 48) flat rate @ £3.95 ( insured up to £150) small parcel, since Royal Mail changed their Signed for which is only insured up to £20 now...which is ridiculous. Without fail day of posting, the reference is uploaded to the system - it protects both parties, and reassures the buyer. Often offering free postage to attract buyers. I can understand business sellers with loads of sales not using the system as it takes time, but it would help any selller and buyer ( not just to gauge delivery) having not to send messages to chase delivery, particularly as many are arriving late.
I do not use Evri or Yodal etc.. unreliable and items i have received have been damaged or thrown over the gate unbeknownst to me until I go looking, plus post offices ( and their employees) need our support, choosing to use Royal Mail and to post direct without using ebay labels... as I have noticed that on those labels it states at the bottom Post By ....( date) this date is between 4 days or a week away, hence late deliveries - my postie confirmed that those parcels with the labels are sorted by those dates!?
I have stopped using 3 day turnaround, giving extra time ie. 5 days , but usually post within two days, as this " pleases" the buyer as they receive ealier than the estimated delivery - plus it allows time for anything untoward ie sick or if something unexpected comes up, it relieves the pressure. We are not robots, or running a million pound business, we are human and there is life outside of Ebay 😉
Always keep postal receipts for at least a month ( private sellers) particularly for anyone using untracked.

Whatever " tracked" postal service you use , upload the reference to the system as soon as you can, within a day at least, otherwise it will just show dispatched with no tracking.

I don't upload tracking for same reasons as @4_bathrooms in post #3.
If a buyer tells me that they haven't received their item I let them know that tracking number XXXX shows delivery on (date).

Why woud you do that? For what purpose?
To make a point, to try and catch someone out?
What does it achieve?
Make it make sense 😉

It is common for Royal Mail to deliver without scanning - some buyers try to use this to their advantage.
It is even more common for Royal Mail to take up to two weeks to make a delivery - you are therefore not reliant on eBay removing your late delivery defects.

I have never had a late delivery defect...
I was not aware Royal Mail deliver without scanning - not happened with me - they take photos now with their mobile when delivering - it is part of their job to do so.
I have not known a dealy of a two week delivery other than if using ebay labels as it states the " post by date " on the bottom of the label - this apparently delays the delivery. Posted say on the 2nd but label states 9th - no delivery until that date or after.
Post office staff explained it.

I stated why in my post; same reason as post #3.

If buyers are using.. not scanning .. to their advantage , then the advantage would be to upload the tracking reference so they can view and gauge delivery and both parties can see it IS (or not whatever the case may be) delivered as the system is designed for that purpose.
Perhaps I am missing the point of why some sellers choose to not upload " tracking" information to the system?

Noticed that myself, I wonder if it is something to do with the fact new sellers are encouraged to send by recorded delivery to get their money faster.

Because, regardless of what your settings are (e.g. mine are that I despatch within 5 days), if you upload tracking or mark your items despatched, ebay then ignore your wishes and gradually make your estimated delivery dates earlier and earlier. The only business I've ever heard of that believes "over promise and under deliver" is a good scheme. It's been gong on for years, many people complain, and ebay say "as designed".
I buy my postage outside ebay, I message my buyers with tracking info, and I leave it as late as possible to mark items despatched. Take that, ebay! [insert emoticon with large middle finger]

Oh my goodness, i was not aware of this and have not noticed them moving the est. delivery closer - I too show five days but post within 2 or 3 and purchase postage outside of ebay.
So I am best to message buyers and leave the item longer to show despatch on the system?
I had a routine... post , then mark despatch and upload tracking ref same day I post , I did not realise that by doing this in a timely manner I could be penalised?

I'm no expert on this, hopefully someone will chime in with better info.
I believe it's only business sellers who get penalised for that. And if that's true I have sympathy for them, yet another aspect where the system is not a level playing field, grossly unfair for them. Though let's not yank this thread off topic, there's plenty of discussion elsewhere about business vs private.
Can't say I'm overly worried about ebay penalising me. I'm more concerned about my buyers being given false promises. I generally pack the same day I get a sale. But if, for example, I need a short stay in hospital, I want the extra freedom that a relaxed schedule gives. My kind of buyers aren't usually worried about choosing the fastest supplier.

Thank you for clarifying.

Like a few sellers here I also do not upload tracking on dispatch - if a buyer opens a "not delivered" case then I check my Post Office receipt & post details on Royal Mail website. It is very satisfying to find the item as delivered a week earlier. I then upload tracking, send the buyer a message that I am very disappointed with them .....& then block them. It weeds out the scammers nicely!
