Hi I've just received this message contacted ebay and is being sent to everyone
That's me I'm done no more ebay for me bye bye
We are making changes to the way we process payments on eBay. Going forward, we’ll make your funds available for payout within 48 hours after we’ve confirmed delivery of the item. Until then, you’ll see a “hold” on your funds. This process helps keep our marketplace safe.

Those saying they won’t post until the money is in their account are fools. It wouldn’t just be that the buyer wouldn’t like waiting - If the item isn’t sent (marked despatched or not, makes no difference) they’d report ‘not received’ after what, the first week at the most?, and such a seller would simply not get paid. Payment after 14 days only happens if there’s no problem from the buyer’s end.

Thank you for sharing - helpful to see... not sure if that is usual as never had it and not sold anything since the " holds" came into play...
I would like them to clarify what " some payment holds may apply" is referring to?

Sadly the internet allows us to see some fools much more than we'd like!

I would imagine some payments holds would be cases that have been opened, payment disputes and all that.

perhaps you can shed light on my original point ages back in this thread
are the entire funds held or just the sale price and you are given the P&P money like before.
as if they hold the whole amount my point remains valid regarding having to front the cost for shipping.
I have historically done loads of selling where my shipping bill in a day has exceeded £400 due to many bulky items going abroad.
so back to my original point, a lot of genuine sellers selling stuff because they NEED extra money wont have the cash to front the postage cost and will be stuck in a catch 22.
this is my main issue with the whole thing.
I dont care about interest on held funds etc if that is instead of seller fees, but not giving the P&P money will prevent shipping the goods in the first place.

Okay - thanks I was wondering if it was " we need to verify your account" and them holding funds until done?

@jokers_toybox wrote:My concern here would be them just leaving anything , be it positive or negative, forcing someone to do something never usually ends well
Well yes, I can certainly see some buyers leaving a neg because they don’t like being harrassed for feedback.
I’ll admit that for right or wrong its crossed my mind to do that to certain sellers in the past. (I didn’t, so don’t come for me!)

I paid for RM Tracked 48 with the buyers payment which is on hold, which is a lot less hassle paying through my bank and deal with app authorisation with the bank and all that.

Nobody asked eBay to stop charging fees - for me, I was quite happy paying fees mostly taking advantage of the 70% reductions that cropped up every two weeks. It's about the lack of trust on eBay's part coupled with the ridiculous "simple delivery" nonsense that they are introducing. I'm quite capable of dealing with my own postage, have always ensured that I dispatch items within one working day (or even the same day), and have NEVER expected eBay to provide me with a service for nothing. If potential buyers think that business sellers are more trustworthy (really? are they?) then fair enough, but I have been quite happy with my level of sales until now so why the change for change's sake?

oh right,
how does this work, like is this all done through ebay,
I've always sorted out my own post options and updated tracking number after as I never wanted to be forced to use ebays own shipping options.
I also refuse to use the global shipping program that ebay constantly tries to add on every draft auction even when you are using a "sell similar" template that has this removed.

Heh, I wouldn't worry, I don't get up in others business, it's not worth the hassle.
I once tried to get a neutral changed because the rating vs the feedback differed (they were happy with items etc) but left neutral which bugged me as I had just cleared the 12 months on the last one!
Ebay said " The buyer's opinion is their own, even if happy that could be neutral to them"

You can use your own label and pay for the shipping out your funds if you want, I prefer RM because that's the closest to me.
It won't allow you to withdraw the postage cost to use externally.
I have shipped today so may get delivered Saturday, I will update when funds released, Maybe I will be able to withdraw Tuesday.
Unless RM lose it 😀 Which I can't see them doing in all honesty.

I listed and sold an item yesterday (5th) and posted this morning. Not delivered but I was able to withdraw the money out today. Not sure when the "holds" kick in.

Others have their funds on hold so unsure... it was the 4th I think

so is this buying a royal mail label through an ebay checkout system though.
will it let me arrange for royal mail to collect from my work place and for the post man to bring a label to use,
if so perhaps this is useful, but I still don't like being forced to have to do it this way, and no doubt ebay makes some kind of commission with royal mail for doing this
also P&P money is to cover both the postage cost and the packing materials.
so I still feel it is wrong that you cannot have funds to do this externally using whatever courier you choose.
and I am not a business seller but when I decide to sell some of my stuff I often previously would list lots of items to try and make my listings more appealing to buyers as they could combine postage on related items, but this can backfire and suddenly you are sending 50 different auctions to about as many different addresses.
I'm just glad I have pretty much finished selling the stuff I no longer want so my days of serious selling are behind me.

So are you a private or a business seller? Because frequently having shipping costs exceeding £400 in a day sounds more like a business ( and if you are registered as a business your funds won't be held).
Yes, it will be very difficult for some private sellers to find money up front; they will indeed be in a 'catch 22'.
06-02-2025 4:29 PM
private seller,
massive record collector that decided a few years ago to refine my collection and sold all my 7"
ebay is my preferred site to buy and sell used items but ebay seem to confuse their strengths and want to turn into another amazon.
but amazon is a completely different type of marketplace
I mean I have certainly never sold an item on amazon and I dont believe i have ever bought a used item on it either.
I also prefer ebay to record specific sites like discogs as ebay means you are looking at pictures and detailed description of the specific item you are buying.
this is what ebay was always about for me and I imagine a lot of people and this is exactly the people they are losing.

'Pending Funds" .. can be accessed to purchase eBay postal labels and/or send refunds...
Once the sale is completed ie. " successfully delivered" funds are available as per whether posted tracked or untracked, and you will be able to withdraw them to your bank account.

Yes, I could have booked a collection, it is the same shipping page with all the options.
I am not sure if RM will bring a label through eBay I am pretty sure you have to print if off, I know you can get a label from the postie directly through the RM website.
I just checked on this account and you do have to print off the label for a collection.

That might be due to a setting you can change:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/prf/view/GspPreference do you have "Use the Global Shipping Programme for new eligible listings" ticked? If so try un-ticking.
