Why does ebay suggest that every listing should have a starting bid of 0.99p?

When creating a listing on ebay, it suggests every time that a recommended starting price of 0.99p should be applied, why question is why?

It's because ebay have a supercomputer running AI.  It contains the encapsulated wisdom of the whole planet.  Who are you to question this?  Your name will go on a list, what's your name?  "Don't tell him, Pike!"

Perhaps the items you're listing aren't commonly available elsewhere, so the system has little to go on when making a suggestion.  Listing items that aren't commonly available makes you a desirable small seller, the kind of person that ebay wants to attract to the platform to make it stand out in the market place.  That's why ebay are doing their very best to support and encourage you... though sometimes it may not quite feel like that.
