Like many others I am perplexed by ebays decision to force every seller to send items tracked. By obtaining proof of postage a seller has already met their legal requirements. All items sent large letter or above over 100g already comes with a reference number so as long as Royal Mail has done its job, proof of delivery is already available from this reference number.
If EVERY item sold will require proof of delivery, are ebay going to be able to automate this? Will the reference number be enough or is the tracked option only going to be sufficient?
For me the extra postage cost (while annoying) isn't the main issue, as postage on say, a CD is going to rise by 70p from £2.10 to £2.80, and small packets from £3.75 to £3.95, so a small price adjustment and a small hit on my part will be the way I will have to go when listing.
However, tracking international parcels will be an issue as international tracked is way more expensive than international standard and to send a CD to the states with tracking will rise from £7.05 to £12.15 before any taxes and seller fees are added.
All seems a little badly thought out to me.

It is already automated
Check your purchase history
It updates to show delivered as soon as the tracking shows delivered (Ok yes there are some delays but MOST of the time it works)
International parcels sent via GSP only need to show delivery to the UK hub

But will the same system work with the reference number or is it just tracked?
