Is there a way to sell an item with variation but have a control stock item?
For example, Say I have 10 glass jars but have 10 blue, 10 red and 10 green lids.
I want to be able to list the jars with the option of having either colour lid.
Variations at the moment lists as I have 10 green, 10 red, etc. but I only have 10 jars.
I would like it to look like this;
Drop down > Glass Jar (stock 10)
Drop down> Blue
> Red
> Green

The setup should be the variations are still a stocked item with a SKU linked to each variation. The dropdowns work in tandem to determine the SKU in question.
So in your case - you could have 3 Red Lid Glass Jars, 3 Blue Lid Glass Jars and 4 Green Lid Glass Jars.
What you are talking about is a Customisable product where you have 10 items in stock and the customer can choose the colour by personalisation. ebay however currently only have a 250 character text box for customisation.

doubtful that such variations would be available for a private seller, who in any case, would not be holding stock.

But could be looking at whether it was possible before becoming a seller. But hey nice community spirit.

If you have 10 jars and 30 lids, why don't you list the jars with 3 interchangable different colour lids?
