I’m a member for 14 years - I have today complained fiercely to EBay with regards to 4% + 75p charge on each item purchased as we all know this is a Back Door way of recovering the Seller Fees which were scrapped recently - Buyers already have adequate protection - as to payment 2 days after delivery - we’re at the mercy of Royal Mail to scan all items when collected (not guaranteed) 😡
Fellow members I urge you to let your disproval known - SHAME ON YOU Ebay😡😡

Very brave of you. Let's hope others follow. I'm frantically listing and trying to sell before the 4th Feb and am sure others will do the same so there will be huge competition to sell anything anyway!

Having recently cleared my parents house I am now frantically de-cluttering. I've loved buying and collecting things but enjoying having the space and some empty shelves more.

Yes, the whole thread has got disconnected; lots of separate conversations going on (but actually I think we basically all agree that the buyer's fee is going to be a nightmare). And, I wish I'd never mentioned hairslides!!!

The quote function is really useful to help make sense of threads like this, otherwise it's just full of random out of context comments.

Having read the eBay announcement and comments here, as far as I get it, this is more expensive for buyers, and almost impossible to work with for private sellers.
Getting paid 2 days after a tracked delivery (so making the item more expensive for the buyer) or after 14 days for non-tracked items is a utter disgrace and not something I want to accept.
If the move to "Simple Delivery" is enforced this year, that is not something I want to be involved in. I like and trust Royal Mail, not some dodgy courier company.
These stupid rules will also massively cut down on my buying items on eBay.
I understand eBay is a private company and can do what they want, but it is totally unfair and not right to impose so many un-workable rules to private sellers and buyers who will end up paying a higher price for their item.
I can’t see any point in contacting eBay, they are a corporate company that simply doesn’t care.
Leaving forum comments, reviews on Trust Pilot etc and trying to get this flagged up on news channels (or the BBC) should bring this to more people’s attention.
I sell mainly vinyl records as hobby and to make some beer money. So after 22 years I will be removing most of my for sale items. I will leave a couple items for sale just to test if anything still sales on eBay. I will write in the description the price I am selling the record for and that any extra is what eBay is adding on. I will also put that the record can be bought from me at a cheaper price at Discogs
Now I am off to list my records for sale on Discogs & ebid

Did you previously write in your description what you were selling a record for, net of ebay fees? If you didn't, I don't see the difference. Most buyers won't care to know anyhow.
Mentioning where items can be bought within your description? My, you're brave. That's likely to get the listing pulled and a 7 day ban, at least.

Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert, has now publicised the 75p + 4% fee so hopefully a few sales in January!

Haha - that was a funny episode and I never see the point of speedy boarding (unless you have a reason such as a bad back that makes it difficult to stand) - you end up longer in an uncomfortable plane seat instead. The plane can't take off until everyone has boarded!
As for promoted listings; I tend to avoid buying anything labelled 'sponsored'. My past experience is that these are often sellers with lower feedback ratings.

Obviously whatever/whoever runs eBay does not care about private sellers. Private sellers who sell the occasional item on eBay making zero profit and most of the time losing money on items they need to offload, cannot afford to be put in such vulnerable position against unscrupulous buyers.

I think the eBay higher-ups have forgotten many key facts, one of which is that every low value item sold by a private seller was bought by someone who wanted that item. Many collectors and everyday buyers come to eBay to see what they can spot. They look for and find that childhood book they wanted to replace….while they’re browsing they spot other items, buying from businesses and private sellers alike.
Many items from private sellers have come from relatives collections and are impossible to find anywhere else. That’s what eBay originally was about…items going on to another home in another collection or book shelf. Reasonable cost to the buyer and reasonable return for the seller…everyone happy.

Research what happened to Poshmark when they introduced the same.

As a buyer on ebay, I am absolutely furious at this new cost from ebay.
Have they been taking lessons from reed and starmer on how to get their hands on every possible penny they can get from us.
In my opinion, it is just robbery and I will have to need something desperately, that I can't find anywhere else, before I buy again on ebay.
Already the postage on US paper patterns are beyond purchasing due to ridiculous postage costs. Now another reason not to use ebay, sorry to the many great sellers.

I only want to list items when ebay do a 70% or 80% off buyers fees promotion 😆

I think they will do offers to buyers, but you'll never know how many buyers have been offered the promotion - like the sellers promotions, it is unlikely to be offered to everyone at the same time. Even if it is, will it be worth the time and effort of removing then relisting items.
14-01-2025 7:52 PM
I don't think they will do offers.
