Recently sold an item which was bid on within an hour or so of auction to end. After the auction buyer messages me to say are you sure you want me to pay as such a low winning price. I replied and said you won fair and square happy for you to buy. Next day I get a request to cancel, I accepted. I just don’t get it, if it was a bargain and you won it, you’d be happy?!
Along with a none payment a few weeks ago and now it looks like I’m getting another buyer who isn’t going to pay (last second bid / won and now nothing) I’m a bit like what is going on 😬

That is a bit weird. Perhaps they just thought it was too good to be true?! If I win an auction at a bargain price, I can't get through the checkout fast enough...😄

What did they put as their reason for cancelling?

I’m the same when I get a bargain, left me very confused 😃

I guess they could have thought that yeah, there is only a few listed at higher prices than mine. The reason they put was that it won’t arrive in time, I know I could have refused but I just found it odd so figured it was best thing to do.

Yes, it does seem odd that they queried the low winning bid with you. Maybe they got 'bidder's remorse', and were hoping they could get you to cancel the sale, rather than have to do the cancelling from their side? This would avoid them getting a transaction defect. Perhaps they make a habit of doing this sort of thing?!

I was selling at a car boot sale last year and a guy picked a brass horse up and asked how much it was. I told him a tenner. He looked at me as if I was mad and put it down. I said "I'll do it for 9 if you like". He shook his head and said "no, ten is far too cheap. If you'd have said £25, I'd have bartered you to 20 and bought it". He turned and walked off.
