So with the new changes is eBay now becoming a bank? + attempting to scrub out cash on collection?

So, from middle of this month if you sell something and unless you instruct ebay to pay you out the money sits in eBays coffers (thus earning interest for them?)...they do say it's so you can pay for labels/shipping ..or buy something else...which is ok but in truth some items sold the price of the labels/shipping can pretty much wipe out the value of sold item anyway? so lets just pay eBay and have done with it.

Also, the items sold for collection only, I can't quite work it out but it looks now like they're attempting to disallow those buyers who are happy to pay cash/ receive cash on collected items from actually taking cash?  they'll be emailing a code and that code when entered wherever makes the payment from where? eBay?  do you have to put the money into eBay? or is it from the buyers bank account?  which I guess then gives the buyer a whole raft of protection and leaves the seller at the mercies of the buyer which if it's for a vehicle adds a  a layer of protection that UK law on buying second hand vehicles (private individulal not business) does not ....or do I have this wrong?  `

Short answer, get eBay to transfer your cash as soon as the deal is done.

Cash on collection has now been done away with as a payment method except for vehicles.

Payments for collection items are now received same as for any other item sold on eBay, they go to your bank account where you keep the money and use it to pay for postage or eBay purchases, or withdraw it to your bank account. Once an item has been paid for, buyers receive a QR code (if using the app) and a 6 digit code which they give to the seller when they go to collect their item.

eBay is not becoming a bank, this is the same as PayPal used to operate when sellers received payments straight into their PayPal accounts - they could use it for purchases or withdraw it to their bank account.

Yes. cash on collection will be banned, meaning it is much easier for buyers of collection items to rip the selles off now

There are other sites to sell cash on collection items which allow Cash on Collection however...

Why exactly have eBay done this? I've noticed many high value items are no longer being listed. I have a few higher value items I'd want cash only for ( I trust nobody ).. EBay is greedy, they just want our money sat making interest for them. With selling fees gone there is no other reason to remove cash on colletion. It's scummy.

The official reply would be something along the lines of this makes it safer so the buyer doesnt need to carry £X to a unknown person and risk being robbed or conned, sellers will think its just so eBay can make money, the actual answer will be a mix of both, eBay will have had people being robbed/conned but they would have been losing out on people paying for cash and then getting 5% back but cancelling the order so the seller doesnt pay fee's. It was the same when a small percentage used to charge 99p but £99 postage and only pay the fee's on the 99p, eBay uses a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.

Yes, but it makes it completely unsafe for the seller lol. Collection items don't need MBG that's for when an item is delivered and not as described. When you collect you view the item. I've actually noticed hardly anyone listing collection items now. Many of the collection items have now been listed on gumtree. EBay are simply shooting themselves in the foot.

There are no selling fees now so the whole cancelling an order to avoid selling fees thing is not applicable, so why remove the option for cash. Cash should be mandatory on collection items.

Still fee's for business sellers though, also eBay really dont care about sellers, they want as many buyers as possible as they rightly or wrongly believe that if they have buyers the sellers will put up with the *bleep* they are fed.

By the way I'm not sticking up for eBay, this is a basically a potato gun bullet to the foot compared with the ak47 they are using to shoot themselves in the other foot towards business sellers, the management at eBay are weak and seem to be doing everything for short term gains without looking at the long term future.

Yep, I don't understand why they removed cash on collection when seller fees are no more. I mean I do... Greed. They want our money in their bank that's the new business model. It sucks because some people do not use or want to use Facebook marketplace, where they get spammed by all those messages from that Nigerian prince..

I'm assuming the plan is to make business sellers exempt from buyer fees when they are implemented next year.
