Another newbie question. Sorry 😂. I've sent a dvd to a customer, it cost them £2.70 (LL). Found out at the post office, that it could have been sent cheaper £1.55 (not recorded). For my next time, at the time of posting my listing onto eBay, if I chose simply delivery LL, then someone buys my item, and messages me to say they don't want to pay for tracked delivery, can I change the postage? I hope that makes sense to someone 😂 thanks in advance 👍🏻

If you change the postage when the buyer has paid, they get a refund and you end up paying.
Your buyer was clearly happy to pay the postage on the listing so why complicated things?

Hi,
You the Seller choose which way you want to sell your items when you list,
either by Simple Delivery
or
by Custom Postage for items under £20.00 sent by RM Letter or Large Letter 100g in weight (if the item/s category is included in Custom Postage). The postage you offer can be RM 2nd or 1st Class for the Buyers to choose from.
In the years I have sold on eBay I have never altered postage options after a sale, too messy.

There wasn't a customer, it was just a theoretical question. Thanks for the reply. I didn't realise I'd be the one paying 😱

Good Evening Andy
In your position I would plump for SD every time. The reason being is that if the package is lost or the contents damaged then eBay will make sure that you and your buyer don't lose out. Further more eBay will remove any adverse feedback that you incur on the sale.
You decide just what postage option you want to offer do not be dictated to by your buyer. If they don't like what you are offering then they will probably not buy, which may be a blessing if they are trying to get you to do something that you are not happy with.
As you make more sales and get to learn how things work then you can possibly tweak things and possibly think about Royal Mail normal postage for the cheaper items.
Good luck

Roger that 👍🏻🫡 I will bear that in mind. Thanks for your reply 👍🏻

With Simple Delivery listings the postage is fixed – you cannot change it once an item has sold. (You can only cancel the entire order.) You can opt not to use the Simple Delivery postage label, but then you would be paying the postage cost yourself. So that’s really not a viable solution.
Anything under £5 that you can opt out of Simple Delivery then do. Paying £1.15 extra in postage (just for tracking) is silly, as that extra ~40% means unless 1 in 3 are getting lost, then financially it isn’t worth it. As the real number should be 1/50 worse case, then it really isn’t worth it.
But do note that there are more issues these days with delays, and impatient buyers. So you may have to end up refunding some items that do eventually get delivered. As mentioned by @dancewithadingo, Simple Delivery can protect you from those issues.
You also need to be careful that any DVDs don’t exceed 100g. It’s been a long time since I sold any, but I vaguely remember some just going over weight (I think thick booklets and double discs were the prime culprits). But if you are checking the weight before posting, then paying an extra 25p out of your own pocket isn’t much of an issue. But if you’re not checking (properly), then a surcharge to your buyer from Royal Mail can be bad for your reputation.
So I would suggest…
If you don’t really care about the money, then go with Simple Delivery. The protections offered by eBay means it’s relatively safe to sell that way.
If you want DVDs to have more chance of selling, or be able to charge up to 50% extra (as the total with postage will be lower), then go with standard second class large letter service.

Your other Royal Mail option is to use packing to bring the Large Letter DVD weight up to 250g. Royal Mail 2nd is £2 for LL of this weight and they come with a free Reference Number. This is an internal RM tracking number that can be uploaded to eBay. The RN is for a RM system that eBay has access to. But that's a lot of work to save 72p. As @papso22 says, if the buyer is happy to pay, why mess about? Simple Delivery is the better option in this instance.

Hi @andy_multimediaman . You have been given alot of advice , all good, but it comes down to preference really. I looked at your Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End DVD 2007 £1.69, but if you add Simple Delivery yours is unlikely to sell compared to the others on offer with free postage. If you select Custom postage and you can definitely post for £1.55 or if just over 100g, £1.80. SD LL is just not value for money and you don't have to use it.
Tracking of cheap items is (IMO) not worth it. RM have always refunded me for lost or damaged items as long as you have Proof of postage. You can edit your listings if you wish to.

Hi, My above post was "Moderated" for "naming and shaming". I can only apologize. I will never @tag a member again! Ever.

Yes, me too. The moderator last night went on a spree of falsely flagging naming and shaming, A newbie or a testing of an automated moderation system? It seems to have been changed back this morning.

@porte2425 well that makes me feel a bit better. I properly got the hump. If it's a real person he was having a bad day. If it was AI it is a bad as the AI who rights the descriptions. AI everywhere else in the world seems quite impressive, Ebay obviously got the poundshop version.

Under their profile, it states "since 15-09-2025". So they are a newbie. Possibly also a bot, who knows. Either way, they got it wrong, not you.
Ha ha that wouldn't surprise me with eBay cheaping out on AI.

I've read the thread to date including your Message #4 so I know it's a theoretical situation you were wondering about, but to answer anyway:
I'd really wonder why a buyer would want non-tracked postage rather than tracked. The only legit reason I can think of is a buyer trying to save postage costs, but that (to me anyway) doesn't outweigh the assurance of having tracked as regards seller and buyer alike. If a seller chooses a tracked method I as buyer would never seek to change that.
The only other reasons I can think of for trying to change to non-tracked is potential scams, which are easier if an item's untracked.

As a buyer, I would chose non-tracked almost all the time. Item value isn’t a consideration as a buyer, as you are covered (it’s a different story for a seller). I don’t see the point in paying any extra for tracking I don’t need. It either gets here or it doesn’t.
In fact, notifications are a bit out of hand, IMO. Under tracked items I receive at least 4 emails (item posted, and then item delivered – both eBay and the courier send these emails), plus another notification within eBay to say it’s been posted. I also usually get emails about “your item will be delivered today”. Evri are the worst for multiples of these, where they keep changing the delivery time slot. Then there’s the “rate your delivery” type that always seem to eventually follow, and don’t have any opt out!
Yeah, tracking is fantastic as a buyer!

The notifications drive me nuts. I only need to know its on its way. I don’t even want to know its arrived. If I think it is delayed/late then Im quite happy to check the tracking status on the order. I had 7 notifications for one item (Evri and it was delayed, often happens) and then I was raging when I had the ‘How did your courier do?’ email. Couldn’t answer that one as it hadn’t arrived due to it being delayed 🙄
