Simple delivery is awful

I list a few things on ebay occasionally, but this new simple delivery is just rubbish for sellers. It assumes that ebay actually know the size and weight of items And that everyone can easily get to Evri or other courier services easily. Why did they have to stop the seller from deciding how to post items? Put me right off bothering to use Ebay.

It appears ebay don't take any notice of photos (because how would they know it was not your garden).

They simply look at hte GPS tracking of where the delivery scan took place. Provided its to your locality - that is the evidence.

if you aren't getting anywhere with ebay - do a chargeback with your payment provider.

I can send them a photo of my garden if they wish !!!! I have DOZENS of
photo's showing deliveries correctly delivered to my porch. The real
problem is that Evri are failing to deliver correctly in time, regularity
and correctness in my area PL14 due to no couriers wishing to deliver in
country location where to make an honest living they are sometimes still
delivering at 9pm. During the last 12 months we have had numerous temps and
couriers who last less than a week. In haste to get rid of their parcels if
they struggle to find the exact location they will dump parcel anywhere
showing on Googe Maps as close by the intended location.

Google 'Evri are a joke in PL14 area'.

eBay should accept responsibility for adopting the worst courier company on
the planet as one of just two options originally (along with RM who I use
all the time) on their STUPID SIMPLE DELIVERY SYSTEM.

Under these circumstances, if eBay doesn't give you your money back (there's no way of resolving it with Evri when eBay is the customer) and an INR case fails, it may be beneficial to contact your payment provider and raise a dispute that way.

I always pay with PayPal, and that way, I (as a buyer) get 3 ways to get this sort of things resolved:

1. Directly via eBay through INR or INAD if not described 

2. If (1) doesn't work, open a PayPal claim - this is external to eBay so eBay won't have a say on what happens

3. If (2) is also unsuccessful, open a charge back claim with your bank against PayPal, again external to any of the above. 

I had an issue once where Parcel2Go overcharged me, so I went to PayPal. They sided with Parcel2Go, so I then opened a case with my bank and they gave me my refund. Presumably the bank swallowed the cost, because PayPal don't like charge backs!

Anyway, at least there are the above methods of recourse should you need them...

I always pay by PayPal but I will let this one ride and wait until I need
to make a more substantial claim, but it doesn't alter the fact that
according to the Simple Delivery System eBay should be responsible if a
parcel is not correctly delivered to my address.

Why have they done this?.

because the evidence ebay believe shows delivery to a location. Note its not just simple delivery here - even if it was custom delivery - ebay would use the same evidence.

Other marketplaces will believe a buyer if they state they did not receive their parcel, even with that evidence. In that event - sellers lose out because it opens it up to fraud. Just say you didn't receive it - they'll just believe you and refund you.

So if you don't like ebays terms and would prefer to have a bit more security in the instances where couriers deliver, but don't - the answer is shop elsewhere.

Maybe consider going to the small claims court against either Ebay the courier or both. The photograph should have a geo location/gps tag, prove its not on your land and you win.

I've sold on eBay for the last 20 years...mainly postcards and books which I've collected in relation  to either work or hobbies...now for books at least the only option seems to be Simple Delivery which on most occasions will be more expensive than me sending direct with Royal Mail .. and it's more complicated ..so the books go to charity shops if I can't list as a custom postage.

Hi @25to4 , Books can go custom postage. Most things can these days TBF, except clothes. You must put a price in under £20 and you must select Large letter in SD and the Custom box comes up.

I inadvertently left a postage option on a listed item (6 piano lids) as well as putting Collection Only and a guy from S Wales bought them - a few hundred miles from me.. Ebay postage was £4.29.  I had no way of getting anything ebay offered to give me a decent price so I did my own research (apparently not encouraged as ebay earn nothing from that..) I enlisted DPD and got a collection from home as the package was 27kg.  I have NO WAY of marking the package as despatched and until the buyer sent me his address, no address to send them to as ebay have chopped off that useful bit of info as well.  So the despatch was due ONE DAY after the sale (despite the sale completing on a Sunday) and I met it ok, the package was delivered the following day and acknowledged as received.  I'm still being asked to send the package because I didn't print ebay's postage label and there's nowhere I can Mark As Despatched. (Ironically I have found that option but it's only on the desktop PC.. and didn't seem to be visible for the past week - maybe my cajoling has made them restore it?)

Ebay have gradually removed more and more from the user and taken any enjoyment out of selling on that platform.  Also theyr'e now hassling you for an upper limit of numbers of items you can sell (30 in a year I believe?) or £1000 before they start telling tales on you.. You can't leave Neg f/b on a lousy buyer (except in the description) and their choices of postage prices are not really close to reality.

Do they ever take notice of the feedback you're allowed to give on their "How did you enjoy the seller experience" page?  I've filled it in three times over this last sale and included my email for a reply but so far the expected 'no response' is all I've had.  One plus to this current debacle is that as a seller I don't have to pay  any fees - they're all hidden at the buyer's expense under the title of 'Buyer Protection Fees' which is a cobbled phrase that means nothing except that the buyer pays.  I wish they'd just stop messing about with things!

The SD label is only half a sheet but in my printer I just put the other half sheet in and it prints ok on that.  It's a method I always use with Evri (another terrible carrier) so I get two labels from an A4 page.

eBay's simple delivery will be costing them for their own stupidity,I've never had a problem using Evri and always used signed for service, but eBay's discounted to them service will be costing, my latest parcel for goods sold for £30 , posted off using qr label system couldn't have gone better and delivery next day brilliant ! But I always thought attempts were 3 times by evri perhaps their discounted service doesn't do so . The buyer was not home for several hours and parcel that was left on front door step missing photo  of delivery  supplied, buyer complaint received parcel missing and eBay said as I had used simple delivery they informed me they would take care of everything and my money for goods in account safe , buyer then appealed and of course auto buyer protection kicks in and refunds him and changes to claim back from seller me, I then have to appeal and as I used simple delivery it's not my fault of course and again my sale money is safe . I assume Ebay lose here as Evri have supplied photo proof of delivery !

It's why I have always used and want to continue to use Royal mail signed
for service, but ebay won't allow me to choose that option and now insist
on simple delivery, I'm unable to change the delivery service ....... mad

Yet more reasoning why I don't use Evri when sending out parcels, and why I don't use Simple delivery! It's not simple when everything goes wrong!!

The only exception would be if it would fit through a letterbox, then I'd use Evri...except Evri Postable is still more expensive than InPost Small via Yodel Direct...and I can just drop the item off at a locker, and have up to 8cm vs up to 3cm via Evri Postable...

So it just doesn't work out properly to use Evri, and it makes even less sense to use Simple Delivery when, despite what eBay say, your money may be at risk...!

Royal Mail "Simple Delivery" (if you choose to turn off Evri) just uses standard Tracked 48 (or Tracked 24 for express), no signature option available!! At least with eBay's built in services before Simple Delivery, you could choose to add a signature (at your expense).
