I list a few things on ebay occasionally, but this new simple delivery is just rubbish for sellers. It assumes that ebay actually know the size and weight of items And that everyone can easily get to Evri or other courier services easily. Why did they have to stop the seller from deciding how to post items? Put me right off bothering to use Ebay.

The item you have for sale is priced at £1230 which is over the £750 limit where Simple Delivery would be used. You have correctly selected Royal Mail Special Delivery (TM) 1:00 pm

Which can't be done anymore lol

Omg has it finally been sorted out?! Just saw age verification on one of my bladed items in simple delivery :0 ! Inpost has been added as well.... Fingers crossed!
Now just need to work out how to delete the banned items which were deleted about a year or so ago so apparently don't exist anymore but I still get emails telling me they have been removed 😕 ...

I've been selling on eBay for 20+ years and have only ever used Royal Mail. I have never had an item lost in the post, or had a Buyer claim non-delivery, so why would I bother with coverage for loss?
Also, I sell a lot of crystal glasses and have never had a breakage in transit via the Royal Mail. I have seen non-Royal Mail couriers throwing parcels around and mixing lightweight parcels with much heavier items (such as car exhausts etc), I dread to think how many breakages I would have had if I had used someone like EVRI.
When considering the relative 'benefits' of a delivery method you need to take account of what you're selling and who you're selling to - eBay Simple Delivery does neither of these things.
Simple Delivery is an overreach by eBay and I wonder what the motivation for it is. Certainly it doesn't benefit the Seller and in many cases it does't benefit the Buyer either. Commission from the shipping companies for eBay, perhaps?

The motivation is revenue for ebay. Its all about revenue streams and this is ebays latest one.

but I'm selling far less since SD and so are many others so how can that be? They'd make more money with the old system

We only know of those voicing their decrease in sales here. I know of some private sellers that love SD and are selling as much as usual. These boards are just a snapshot. The devil is in the detail when ebays quarterly reports are released. If ebay income is down, they will switch things up again and more changes can be expected

Yes. one courier broke a heavy speaker that I sent in for repair but the shop had prepaid the courier (DPD) and they thought it was insufficiently packaged & so my item (originally bought on ebay) came back with chunks out of the casing they must have dropped it. Luckily it still works. I used to sell larger electrical things on ebay but gave up because the couriers incl. parcelforce broke some items althou their insurance always paid. Now I only sell such things on collection only or facebook and will only send lighter things via courier

Remember though a good percentage of private sellers on eBay when there were FVF would only list when eBay gave 70-80% off fees. So eBay could now make more from 1 sale than say 4 sales at the same price (if they were sales with the percentage off fees)

guess ebays in bed with the couriers. and making money on the side.

how does SD make sense and how is it simple?? if i post 20 items and i want one collected by royal mail, ebay will make the other 19 pay high RM prices! as you cant select one for one listing and another for others.

'guess ebays in bed with the couriers. and making money on the side. '

Well, yes! Ebay and Evri are indeed in a business partnership.
The money from pushing Evri is not 'on the side'. it's officially one of ebay's new 'Income Streams'.

narcissist dont give options as it all ebay ebay ebay - me myself and I
27-12-2025 1:13 PM
What is odd is someone bought 3 items from me. Ebay has for some reason booked 2 of them for royal mail and 1 for evri. They could have all gone in one box.

It is because rivals platform V*****d does, so they try to figure out where they get the money and survive and think that people would like it, like that platform. I don't like that platform and I was on Ebay because it was more professional, and you could manage yourself things where you are deemed responsible then, for them. They now steal a commission off the buyer, I had to tell people in the offer I accept this offer etc but you have to pay for buyer protection, delivery price does not cover extra packing etc, stuff like this because they don't know and think that the money goes to us, I have now to tutor buyers and sellers, how to avoid Evri and such. It is a nightmare to buy and sell here from private sellers. I am missing the percentage on the sale instead of all this mess.

I can't wait for their report, hopefully all my canceled sales will pop up, I never had to cancel so much in a year.

This is no way to pack it. Glass, electronic or heavy items needs bubble wrap, and a box not too small where they touch the walls (parcels rolls on tapes in sorting warehouse, and the walls absorb the hit of the tapes or other parcels there, but it has not to be to big either, or the item might rolls inside the box.
Also with the said items, and i would put in very thin or chip plastic, as well, fill the space left in the box, with the item, in the middle of air cushion, styrene or A LOT of newspaper *bleep*, the item must stay in touch with this soft filling, but it has no to move to the walls, and the fillings will help absorb other damages from the walls as well, before it reaches the item. Also better to write an arrow pointing up asides with "top" on it so they won't put it upside down. I always mark them as fragile and top and bottom on each side. If you have a good person in depot or delivering, that spot your box wrong way, they will fix it, not everyone are careless. I have no problem help sellers to make a proper box, the issue I had, sometimes they told me I am wrong on this and the item arrived broken, no matter what service they did use. Sure Evri is always the exception, because when they throw it on the fence, even like this it might not survive...
Also heavy items crush each other in a box, I learned that the hard way, now I will require them in another small box, individually wrapped and filled, and then the 2 box in a big one filled. If the item are big and heavy, it is also better to have maybe 2 postage for it, rather then a huge box the courier can't lift, they will roll it. Difference is I am more willing to pay for this because I need the items often, rather then refund so if people here don't give a damn because there is a refund, buying here becomes an issue for me.
