I will probably use Royal Mail ‘Click & Drop’ postage which imports eBay sales records ready to pay and print address labels, and I will mark the item as “sent”  together with the tracking number.   my item with free postage usually costs  £1.55 for Large Letter.

Firstly, to get it out of the way. You shouldn't be affected by SD at all, as you should have a business account. By not doing so, you are depriving your buyers of some of their statutory rights, and you are operating illegally.

Secondly, once SD kicks in on your listings (and it will), either you or your buyer will be paying for the postage. If you don't use the label, then whoever paid for it will eventually be refunded. On your listings, that would be the buyer.

So you can carry on using RM if you want, but the buyer will receive the postage refund, not you. And eBay will probably cease importing the tracking number from RM. It appears there may not be a way to over-ride eBay's own label's tracking info. You will, of course, have RM's protection, but none of the minor "extra" protection which SD provides.

If you're trying to find a way around it, you'll need to do better than this.

You can’t really blame private sellers to try and keep the costs down for their buyers ! As it will cost me another £1.30 for Simple Delivery it virtually wipes out any profit I could make. I think eBay is killing off the small seller and if a huge amount of people do so ,I think eBay will feel the loss of income.
As for having a business account , I would have to sell at least 16 items to cover the cost of the basic shop subscription.
I will have to think hard about what I’m going to do!

You ARE a business sellers, whether or not you think you sell enough to be one.

You don't need to have an eBay shop on a business account, you can just carry on listing as you have been, although you will be charged a listing fee, as well as final value fees, plus fees for any other "enhancements" you may choose.

You are not obliged to have a shop subscription.

You should have a business account - business sellers have to provide their business address and allow returns for any reason.

That is not a choice, it is consumer law.
