Signature confirmation?

I'm posting an item today and eBay is telling me I should buy signature confirmation due to the cost of the item, Ive never heard of this before and its not clear where I buy signature confirmation?

Any ideas?

Signature confirmation?

I don't believe that Parcelforce cover guitars, in the past I've used https://www.secursus.com/en-gb/ for top up insurance.

I believe a guitar will be too big for Royal Mail Special Delivery, I think that the maximum length is 61cm.

Have you checked DHL?

When i go to RM website and select "Large Parcel" it re-directs me to Parcelforce website. When i input the size and weight of the item, its only comes back with Express 24/48 options.

Unless im being totally moronic ( which is entirely possible ) then i cant see any way to send this SD

To be clear, I have no issues refunding this buyer if this looks fishy with regards to click and collect.

I personally never selected that and it must have been pre-selected by eBay when I made the listing. I usually only sell smaller, lower value items on here and Ive never been scammed before or had anything go badly wrong.

I have several thousand pounds worth of personal belongings that I need to offload on here and its unlikely Il use eBay again in the future, the service is pretty bad now compared to a few years ago so I just want to get these things gone and be done with it.

Well spotted! I also agree, DHL or UPS (with enhanced compensation cover) seems to be the only way as neither have compensation exclusions for musical instruments.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Try DPD - I sent a saxophone using their service a few years back with no issue... it was in the case and double boxed ( the box had to be made to fit using larger cardboard boxes cut down and added with plenty of tape,  bubblewrap and inner protective packaging, so it was of a significant size, insured and arrived in 3 days.

Being as you have control over your postal choice I am sure you can find a courier suitable.

If unsure, parcel it up and take it to your local post office and ask them the best way?

If you are going to send it to the Click & Collect address then you need to ensure that the package doesn't exceed the maximum dimensions allowed for Click & Collect items:

  • Your item weighs no more than 15kg (including packaging) and no one side of the parcel exceeds 90cm, with max dimensions of 0.324 cubic metres. (Any items that are too large or exceed the weight limit will be rejected on arrival at the Click & Collect location and may be disposed of, without reimbursement)

You can opt-out from offering C&C on this page. However, opting-out will not affect your current sale which eBay will expect you to honour.

Actually, there is something you should check regarding Click & Collect:

"Your item weighs no more than 15kg (including packaging) and no one side of the parcel exceeds 90cm, with max dimensions of 0.324 cubic metres. (Any items that are too large or exceed the weight limit will be rejected on arrival at the Click & Collect location and may be disposed of, without reimbursement)"

How long is the longest side and what is the volume (height x width x length) of the package?

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Possibly , but I would most definitely be uncomfortable with posting a valuable and as large as that to a store for collection...

Thank you very much @sml192 , this package does exceed those dimensions.

It is 120cm x 60cm x 20cm weighing about 6kg.

I might just have to cancel this order and refund the buyer. Something else worth noting, when I listed the item it was about 11pm at night, I had an emergency to deal with so I couldn't finish the listing properly. All it had was one photo of the guitar and the description read "Pictures and description to follow" 10 hours later someone had bought it based off that ad, which I thought was odd...

I would do the same as you,  cancel and re-list with a complete selection of photos and description... but possibly expect a negative feedback?  - have you communicated with your buyer at all? Perhaps let them know as the listing wasn't complete ( it states it in your listing) and it went " live" by mistake and that you will re-list when it is complete? Either way wish you all the best and hope all the responses you have received from everyone have helped.

Ive cancelled the order now, I wont risk posting it to a click and collect store for it to be discarded.

Il re-list later with this new information I have, thank you all very much for your help. Probably just saved me £760....

At least its all packaged and ready to go for the next buyer I suppose....

Did you enter those dimensions in the "Package size" when creating the listing? If you did Click & Collect should never have been offered as a delivery option.

I can take the hit on bad feedback if I have to but Il challenge eBay on it, I have never actively selected Click & Collect and it was on by default ( now turned off thanks to @4_bathrooms ) so that's a main reason I had to forfeit the sale.

I did contact the buyer and inform them ive cancelled the order because of this. I did contact the buyer after I noticed someone had purchased the item too, I sent more pictures and a better description of the guitar although they didn't seem too bothered and told me just to send it down anyway.

No, i always package my items after someone purchases, I then measure and weigh them myself and buy postage through eBay, Ive only ever used RM/Parcelforce, Ive never used another courier before.

I do this in case someone asks me an obscure question or wants additional photos of what im selling, if its all packaged up then I have to break open the packaging to get the information I need so I leave it til last.

Ive sold quite a few things on here but its usually smaller items and things below the £400 mark, I did sell an empty vintage guitar case once that I had Parcelforce collect from my house but the value was only something like £100.

If you do tracked royal mail 24 or 48 you are covered for  £150 should the item be lost or damaged ,but you can ask for a signature too, for a small parcel up to 2kg the cost is £6.38 .It is more for a medium parcel .

I am having the same issue.

I am selling an expensive item via Ebay. I plan to use Royal Mail Tracked 48 service which includes £150 compensation. It is asking me if I want further insurance I need to buy £1.50 signed for delivery. What does this mean? The label already has £150 compensation! So why do I need to pay extra £1.50 as insurance?

What does the signature insurance even do? The label already covers the £150 compensation and my item is only worth £150. Is the signature needed?

Paying for a signature capture on delivery does not increase the compensation cover where Tracked 48 is concerned - it simply means the delivering postie is required to obtain a signature. eBay only requires a signature for orders worth £450 or more so you don't need to pay for the signature option.

Where does it state adding the signature option provides further insurance?
