Should I send an expensive item to a new buyer with no feedback

Hi All,
I have sold an item for over £1,000
and it was already to send and I checked the buyer.
He had registered the day before and has no feedback.
I have messaged him asking to confirm the address but no answer yet.
I can send Special Delivery so signed for and insured.
But unsure what to do?

Thanks

@jrmc137

It probably still wouldn't be enough to be classed as proof.

You could have switched boxes after the video.

Yes, unfortunately I do not believe ebay accept photo's or videos of a sent item and in the event of an issue will say 'we can't be sure of the item/condition of item that the buyer received'.  Then they side with the buyer and seller has to authorise a return/refund on return.

Also if a buyer sends back the wrong item or a damaged item ebay will still side with the buyer and the seller has to refund.

You’re probably right. Better than nothing though.

I suppose the only answer is to not sell anything on eBay unless you’re willing to run the risk of potentially losing it.

'to not sell anything on eBay unless you’re willing to run the risk of potentially losing it. '

Spot on!

It's long been a saying, 'don't put anything on ebay that you can't afford to lose'.

And in the event of a buyer sending back a different item, the advice is to report it to Action Fraud.

Action F. don't actually do anything with your report, but they'll give you a number.

So then you appeal your case with ebay, and give them the A.F. number- this *should* cause ebay to give you your money back. (they can't take it back from the scamming buyer, mind you, but you do get paid in the end!)

It's not £1000 or anything but I had a sale for £200 I was very happy. Then I noticed the buyer literally only joined the day before. I almost straight out cancelled the sale right there.

Instead I decided to message the buyer with my concerns that he was new, and so obviously had no feedback. He said he had joined to just buy this particular item.

I still had concerns, but I agreed to post it.

Long story short he left glowing feedback, and since this was nearly a month ago now I don't think it is any kind of scam. We all started as a new buyer at some stage.

So while you should definitely be wary this could be somebody who joined just to find a particular item(s).
