Selling. Payments on hold

I am a private seller. I sold a jacket for  £25, a couple of weeks ago.

So, I’m Aged 77 and a bit tec dim.

I had two different old accounts, hadn’t used them in a long time. Couldn’t remember the details on them to sign in, so started a brand new account in 2024. Sold item. Message from eBay. Payment on hold, won’t accept my bank details as this had been used twice before in the old accounts, so could not pay out the £25. Payments on hold.

Many calls later and lots of different advice from operatives, Now find I cannot be paid due to UK “ Money “ Laundering” rules. EBay won’t accept my High Street Bank Account because it’s been used on the old accounts.

Apparently one can have many eBay accounts, but they all have to have different Bank Accounts.

One eBay operative advised me to delete the old accounts, I did that.  Now  just have the one with the £25 in. Didn’t work, made no difference.

I cannot even buy on eBay with the £25.

Consistent  advice from senior level eBay  is to open a new Bank Account.

I certainly don’t want to do that.

My complaint is now closed.

Most Ludicrous situation ever. Shud just tell them to keep it, but have learnt what the CEO’s salary is!

Has anyone got any ideas?

Selling. Payments on hold

Maybe there is a time delay after deleting the old account?

I know you say you dont want to but Coop do a cashminder which anyone with id can get without a credit search aside from checking id. You did need to go in branch though but its a proper account with a sort code and account number, debit card etc, no fees or charges. Its literally called a basic account. I have one which I just use to pay myself into from my main business account. I rarely hear from them aside from statements, certainly no trying to sell me anything.

I really think its the only way around it.

Selling. Payments on hold

eBay has 'amended' its payments on hold rules TWICE within the last two weeks !!

The original decision and rule change stated that if items were sent untracked, with no proof of delivery, the Seller had to wait 14 days, even if the Buyer left Positive feedback, (which obviously confirms delivery)

After thousands of complaints from angry Sellers, eBay's payments on hold rules have changed again !!

Now it transpires, items sent via standard mail (without tracking and without proof of delivery) WITH A VALUE OF LESS THAN £10 will get the money released with just POSITIVE feedback two days later.

(Sellers no longer have to wait 14 days to get their money for low value items).

I somehow think this is too little too late, with many eBay Sellers already leaving the platform
