Seller returning item as missing parts, but I didnt say it included in the post

1000118706.jpg

I sold a Tankini which I never had the arm straps for. There are clear pictures of the top and the whole set, without any straps as I don't have them.

It's listed as bandeau style and I don't accept returns. The buyer messaged to day I had forgotten to include the straps and it is unwearable.

I told her there is no straps for it, and there aren't any in the pictures, I had worn it fine without.

She's now started a return with eBay, but I cant see where I can defend myself to say the missing parts were never missing as they weren't included.

She has shown pictures of where said straps should go, but I've never had them or included in the listing.

Should I just refund? I'm a bit annoyed all this over £2 and I'd have to pay for her to send back, which is more that what I recieved for the item.

To be honest, if the item was of such value, and if a case for item not as described is opened, best then to just fully refund and not provide that tracked return postage,  if it costs more than the item itself.

Annoying though it may be,  the item may have ' stayed up' when worn by yourself, but perhaps this buyer is of  a ' different build ', and it doesn't work for her,  making the item not fit for purpose.

Thankfully,  it's not an expensive item, I know it's  still a loss of money, but it does show how very important not just photos are,  but descriptions too, for the items being sold.

Good Morning Ang

If I have read your last sentence correctly and you sold it for £2.00 then tell her to keep it and refund her money.

With hindsight and for future sales then cover yourself by saying on any other item straps not included etc.

You seem to have been aware that there could be straps, so you should have mentioned that there weren't any, in your description.

As above, for two quid, just refund and let them keep it.

I have had this myself, although not recently

At the time I had thought that this is something they do to get free stuff, or a free return after wearing, thinking that I would just refund them rather than pay the return postage, or they hadn't viewed all the pictures/read description.

It's up to you - you can either accept the return & pay the postage, relist slightly higher to recoup some of the cost, or if you're not bothered you can just refund without return.

Might be worth checking out their feedback, both received & also what they leave.  If you suspect they are a regular at this you can report them.   'The buyer is demanding something that wasn’t offered in the original listing'  They know how the system works, if you've had comms with them yet they've still opened a return.

Generally, you do need to really spell out what is/isn't included to avoid this sort of thing.

Whatever you decide I would personally block them so you don't have to deal with them again.

You can report the buyer for the reason 'The buyer demanded something that wasn’t offered in the original listing'.

If sufficient reports stack up that the buyer makes a habit of misusing the MBG, eBay might clip their wings.

Seller returning item as missing parts, but I didnt say it included in the post

Good Morning Ang

You might like to use the following on your future listings:

Please be aware all items pictured are included. If items are not pictured, which you feel should be, please assume they are not included. If in doubt then please ask.

I would steer clear of selling used swim wear. Personally I certainly wouldn't buy any, additionally I don't know what eBay's policy is on this.

I wouldn't let someone keep something for free, it encourages buyers to "try it on" I would ask for it back and pay return cost on principle. Will the buyer take the time to go to the post office to return a £2 item? Who knows

I bought a scanner "Opened never used" but when it I arrived I found it had no charging cable. When I raised this with the seller they said "we never said it included one". While that may be technically true , I don't think I should have to ask for an itemised list of all included parts. The seller should specify all of the included parts or show them in the photos.

I can see your point here; an electrical object needs a cable or charger of some sort to work.

But the swimsuit in question was described as 'Bandau' - that's a fancy word for 'strapless' , and the non-existing straps, were indeed, *not* in the photo!....so the photo was true.
