SIMPLE DELIVERY - DELIVERY SERVICE NOT SHOWING/SELLER OVERCHARGING FOR ROYAL MAIL

Another change since simple delivery has been at the top right of listings where it now just says "standard delivery" but not which postal service. Although, and I wish I knew how they do it ,some private sellers are still able to list under Royal Mail 2nd class or suchlike showing on the listings.

It has only been in the past 1/2 hour (24/09/2025) that I have found a way of seeing what delivery service a seller is going to use. If you click "contact Seller" "FAQ's" then "postage" you see the service.

Now it is bad enough that Ebay are charging a Buyer Fee and charging Sellers more than the actual postage cost but seems some sellers are getting in on the act as well.

Again in the past 30 minutes I asked a seller if they would send by Royal Mail  ?.( So the item would get delivered and not thrown into the garden of some random address 10 miles away). Part in brackets was not said to seller.

Now as far as I know it would be just a case of revising the listing to give Royal Mail as an option. The item was £15 and postage was showing as £2.96 which I found out was for EVRI.

Seller replies that they would send by Royal mail but it would be £4.00 more ......WHAT THE F*** ?.

The item would have cost £4.05 to send by RM48 Small Parcel.

No extra cost involved for sending with Royal Mail instead of Evri that I can think of. Even adding 30p for Royal Mail home  collection.

Seller loses out on a £15 sale by trying to rip me off on postage cost.

Poor .

Re: SIMPLE DELIVERY - DELIVERY SERVICE NOT SHOWING/SELLER OVERCHARGING FOR ROYAL MAIL

Sellers get to choose what courier they offer, just like you get to choose which ones you will accept as a Buyer (I remember your horrific EVRI stories 😱).

As for how Private Sellers are offering Custom Postage, eBay made this easier a few weeks ago. If your item is £20 or under, and the category allows, you should see Custom Postage pop up as an option. If it doesn't switch from Simple Delivery then make sure you've chosen SD Large Letter size (regardless of actual item size) this should enable Custom Postage. Then you can get rid of SD and choose any Royal Mail size or weight that you wish. Presto!

The only problem is that now RM 2nd delivery schedule is every other day and not on Saturdays, you get a lot of messages asking: Where's my item?
