I don't know the answer to this, but I think that the sale price of £10
excludes the Buyer Protection Fee. What a mess!

I have asked eBay to change the rule to exempt from Simple Delivery items that weigh less than 100g OR priced at under £5, not under 100g AND under £5.

I hope when you asked that that you stated £10 not £5!

Sorry if this has been answered already, but does the £10 limit include the postage charge set by the seller or is it disregarded?

It’s for items “priced at”

I assume postage isn’t included

Thanks for that, I hope so, that was my initial thought too. The "priced at" wording though is a bit ambiguous.

Royal Mail Large Letter query

Hello again …. Since posting this question of items less than £5 + less than 100g in weight plus can I use Royal Mail postage stamps (I already have) when despatching I have received so many varied answers and still not certain myself of the correct answer.

Its no good asking eBay as they don’t know their right from left.

What a shambles.  I am glad I don’t have parcels to despatch, it must be a disaster for those that have.

In closing, thanks for the responses I have received and let’s stick together.

You can use stamps only if the item you are selling is exempt from Simple
Delivery so that you can use "Mark as despatched" under custom postage

To me it got more ambiguous when I read messages 2 and 3 here

postage was mentioned

tbh I don’t think the community team are sure either

Unless I’m reading it all wrong

https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Chat-with-the-eBay-Community/Weekly-Chat-with-the-eBay-Community-Tea...

in general all the customer service chat has talked about the price of your item not the postage …it just doesn’t hang right iyswim for postage to be included in the ten pounds

"I was able to understand that you would like more clarification regarding the postage label size regarding "Simple delivery". Please know that if the item is below £10, you will not have the option for it however as the item is below £10 you can simply opt out of the "Simple delivery" feature and get the label directly from your end.

I hope this helps" _ ebay customer service today

I know help says one thing and help also says another. I prefer the answer above. Still no change to my account.

Maybe anyone who is convinced the CS above is wrong could also email them and see what answer they give.....

Unfortunately, CS have given you the wrong information.

This was clarified on 15th April - Large Letters are NOT exempt.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/postage/simple-delivery

Which listings are not required to use Simple Delivery?

Simple Delivery won’t be required for items that are letter-sized and £10 or under with a weight of 100g or less. Simple Delivery will be required for large letters.

Except the link you copied does not say that about large letters.

FAQs - About Simple Delivery

Which listings are eligible for Simple Delivery?

Which listings are not required to use Simple Delivery?

Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when posting eligible items. Simple Delivery will be optional for items priced £10 and under, letter-sized, and in certain sub-categories* within the following areas:

The page has been changed in the last few days

before, it said simple delivery is required for large letters

This is what it says now…..my question is are all those things now exempt (because sometimes you read help pages and it’s not clear)

gosh there’s a god after all

and do they have to be priced under £10

for sure they must be allowed to go large letter as a lot of them wouldn’t fit in a normal envelope..so now letter sized means envelope or large letter

That's really useful to hear, thanks.

I suppose what we will now have to worry about based on the wording is an "and/or" logic debate, I.e.

Are the exclusions those under £10 AND letter sized AND from those sub-categories (ALL AT SAME TIME)....

or if at least one of the following...

-Under £10

-Letter sized

-From those sub categories

Using Ebays example categories, it feels like they have *possibly* now realised they just cannot police sizing or weight, so only have pricing as an accurate benchmark/cutoff for Simple Delivery, and are relying on accurate categorisation by sellers.

The 1% club programme have far easier answers

if Mensa members can’t decipher ebays messages then what hope for most of us

haha

ok

im thinking..always a bad idea for me but you never know

it can’t be just letter size, it must be large letters are ok because dvds are included for example plus they removed the statement large letters must be sent via SD

all those sub categories are exempt plus many others, see last bit of text they put …you,L find out when trying to list (photo below)

I think the £10 price probably applies to all…because one of the main complaints about SD was about sending low price small items and being forced to send tracked which defeated the purpose of selling low priced items with low price postage if they’re small

The answer is now yes I believe

Yes, I’m pretty sure that they have confirmed that an auction on a letter sized item goes over £10 SD will kick in.

If you want to ensure it sells for less than £10 buy-it-now would be the obvious way to list.

OK, thinking about this a bit more, here's what I've arrived at as "simple SD logic" based on the exclusions text.

-Weight of shipment doesn't actually matter (as Ebay don't know it)

-Size of letter/package doesn't matter either (as Ebay don't know it)

-SubCategory *does* matter and is dependent on seller accuracy

-Price matters, as its the ONLY thing Ebay knows for sure

SO....

I actually think Ebay have had a moment of clarity and realised they can ONLY apply compulsory Simple Delivery to orders that are over £10 and (at the same time) in non-exempted categories.

Hope this makes sense and isn't clouded by my wishful thinking!

your post makes sense for all the right reasons

It’s too complicated for Ai to get it right ..Ai doesn’t deal with reality

so much for Ai

id personally go b ack to pen and paper and simple solutions like stick a stamp on

it ain’t that hard

sorry not meaning to be blase but I’m simple delivered out

but happy to see eBay are doing a kind of meeting you half way thing because a few days ago their message was NO YOU CANT send large letters unless it’s with SD

now they’re making a lot more sense

Yes, the CS agent didn't mention weight, but it did seem that £10 was everything now. Clinging to that hope anyway. Can't wait for the next installment of the SD help page....

Thank you for updating me.

Apologies for giving out of date information - there is now no mention of 'large letters' in that section now.

The goalposts have (apparently) been moved again!
