Refund for item but no funds received initially

Hello all

I have had to refund a buyer for an item not received sent by evri who are apparently looking into the matter’. God knows how long that will take. I have not actually received any funds for the item yet I have had to refund with the refund being taken from ‘my funds available’. How does that work! The money they paid wasn’t actually available to me and wouldn’t be until end of March so not sure where these ‘available funds’ come from. This whole new system is a complete farce and tbh I think it is eBay capitalising! Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

I think if you do not have any, or sufficient, funds available in your 'eBay Balance', the refund will have been taken from the bank account you have linked with eBay.

It’s not right is it

what if evri lost all ten parcels say in a week of sales

Are you supposed to have loads of money in the bank to refund buyers  left right and centre while they sort themselves out?

No it is far from right. eBay have not given me the funds for the item as it hasn't been delivered due to being lost and I am having to refund something which I haven't been paid for as well as postage meaning I am out of pocket. Ever since they started this ridiculous new system there have been problems, I have had enough, they keep your money whilst I am sure making some interest on it too! Thanks for your kudos.

That's fine if eBay had actually sent the funds in the first place but they haven't! I am now out of pocket for the item and postage. The funds have not been allocated to me as the item is showing as not been received!

If there aren't enough available funds in your account Ebay will take the money straight from your bank it will show as a direct debit on your bank statement

Yes they are holding onto private sellers money in order to earn interest/invest:

You do not have any ownership interest in these investments and any interest earned from these investments will be retained by us. To the extent you may have any beneficial ownership in the interest or proceeds of these investments, your acceptance of these terms constitutes an assignment of any right, title or interest therein to us.

Keeping sellers money for as long as possible to earn interest/invest is only the tip of the iceberg of ebay's greed:

  • Buyer Protection Fee – a total lie, they are just pocketing the money
  • Holding private sellers money - earning interest/investing
  • Simple Delivery - once mandatory ebay will make money on every postage label for every item sold
  • Hiding listings - ebay are hiding sellers listings so they have to pay to make them visible again
  • Disabling the invoice facility - buyers are forced to pay BPF on each item so no combining orders now.

Hiding listings is bad to get you to promote your item cos promoting it ..no evidence it works that much anyway

disabling invoicing facilities and calling it a technical glitch is baaaaad

most people will cancel the sales and make a new listing anyway so why bother

They are actually with me leaving minus amounts and not taking from bank. I have refunded about £25 for overpaid postage to buyers and i was -£3.09, today finally some money went into available funds less that amount. Trying to keep track of it all is a nightmare

It doesn't seem right that a buyer has paid for an item ,ebay have this money but then they still want the money out of your available funds for the refund ,ebay have the available funds that the buyer paid out for item ,so why then do they need to take the money out of your linked bank account ,they have the money ,so why are we as sellers having to refund money that ebay already have .

They are too busy earning interest/investing it so you can't use it for the refund until they are finished with it and instead take the money from your linked bank account.

I wonder if they would do this if you used simple delivery

after all it’s supposed to protect you from all sorts

12. Liability for Loss or Damage and Compensation.

You remain responsible for any loss or damage to your item until it has been scanned into the carrier’s network. Once your item has been scanned into the carrier’s network and providing you used the Simple Delivery label and are compliant with these Terms and eBay’s Policies, as well as the relevant Carrier Terms, your item will be covered for loss or damage during transit up to the sold item value on the eBay.co.uk site. This means you will retain your sales proceeds in relation to the item sent using the Simple Delivery label. The item will be in transit from the point it has been scanned into the carrier’s network until it has been marked as delivered by the carrier.

It really is quite shameful.

Personally, I preferred it when payments went into PayPal. It seemed to work better, and be less complicated. There were transaction fees, but it was nice not to have your bank account dragged into things, like with this refund situation.

'.........providing you used the Simple Delivery label and are compliant with these Terms and eBay’s Policies, as well as the relevant Carrier Terms, your item will be covered for loss or damage during transit up to the sold item value on the eBay.co.uk site.'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I just went for an experimental listing of a side mirror off my old dead van.....

Rather obviously this is a 'mirrored item'!

And, along with an enormous amount of other items and stuff, it's on the 'exclusion list' for compensation for loss or damage in delivery with both Evri and Royal Mail (currentlty the only 2 options in Simple Delivery)

I was rather hoping it would turn out to be unable to be posted using Simple Del.

It wasn't.

*And* a big ol' box appeared on the 'advanced postage' page saying ,  'Simple Delivery RECOMMENDED for this item'.

Looks like more naive sellers are being encouraged (shortly to be forced?) into using uninsurable postage and ebay will not cough up for damages......

Oh good.
