Providing Photo ID

eBay is asking for photo ID to continue selling, but I am very uncomfortable uploading my ID onto their system, where they'll store it for who knows how long. Does anyone know if they will accept a link to the photo on  Dropbox or Google Drive instead?

'........instead of asking hundreds of millions of people to provide confidential data why not simply have a fraud team focusing on dodgy accounts selling high value items , why must 100% of people get inconvenienced because 1% of people are dodgy ?.....'

Because it's cheaper.

A 'fraud team' may have to employ human beings who need to be paid.

Because that wouldn't meet the requirements of 'Know Your Customer' under the money laundering regulations.

Re: Providing Photo ID

I was asked for my ID, I sent a scan of my passport, it verified it in minutes. There's no way a human was involved there. If you think about it, it would be a huge security risk having hundreds of humans verifying sellers.  That's how M&S, the Co-Op and Jaguar came unstuck. Cyber attackers target humans, they're the weakest link.

I'd suggest that you don't have clue and cannot verify what you  posted.

Can you?

What is it that I don't have a clue to and cannot verify?

Yes, that's correct, that's what I wrote.

I sent the scan and literally in a couple of minutes I received an eBay message letting me know that it had passed their verification check.

The ones that appear to be forwarded for additional human verification seem to take days, weeks even, given what some other sellers are saying.

I'd suggest you go back to school and focus on English to be honest.

Re: Providing Photo ID

In YOUR particular example. I can assure you that is not always the case.

How do you think leaks happen?

AI doesn't automatically scan your messages and set up an AI bank account so that it can funnel your money there.

Indeed! My apologies for my previous reply. I was in a bad mood at the time but it's still not an excuse.
