I posted about my bewilderment earlier this week on some of the changes introduced by eBay that are negatively impacted sellers.
‘Simple Delivery’ seems to be the change that will be the final straw for many sellers.
Regardless of whether you agree with the change, the technology is just not working at all, and stands to leave both buyers and sellers well out of pocket.
Let me explain…
I have over 200 live listings right now. For each one, I have selected a postage option on eBay suitable for their size and weight.
Since the proposed introduction of Simple Delivery, all the records on items listed prior to April 2025 have reset and are broken. Items listed with postage options according to size and weight are now listed as ‘Other’ in the postage category leading to eBay either taking misleading or mistaken attempts to classify postage. For example, a book provided with a 20kg postage option with the size of a cabin bag - never going to sell as the quoted postage price to the buyer is well above the RRP.
Likewise, I sold a clock with a 60cm diameter and 5kg weight this week when eBay provided a Royal Mail small parcel label up to 2kg despite me selecting the correct postage option previously.
Worse still, there is no way to correct for this mistake or even pay the difference. I was told by eBay support to ask the buyer to pay the postage to my PayPal and purchase a label myself. Clearly ridiculous. They also said I could add tracking for this label once sent. Again, totally incorrect! Worse still, it means delayed postage for the seller and me trying to explain a totally dysfunctional situation and process in the name of a brand which should be the world’s leading marketplace!
So, I spent all of yesterday evening re-entering all of the postage details for my items to avoid a repeat of clock-gate.
When checking again tonight, many of those items have reset to ‘other’. I tried to amend in real time and recorded the UX and steps. Again, the item postage resets to ‘other’
It’s totally broken folks and is not fit for purpose.
Ive been selling for over 20 years and have paid eBay huge sums in sales fees and subscriptions. I’m beyond furious at this shabby situation.
It needs fixing. Right. Now.

Woah, wind back there. They told you to take the transaction off ebay and ask the buyer for a direct Paypal payment? That is such bad advice, completely against Ebay's seller t and c's and could land your account in big trouble. Do not even try to attempt that as they will put a mark on your account for breaching t and c's.

Ignore what ebay CS told you on the phone! CS are very imginative at the best of times, and this is far from the best of times☹️
When CS don't know or haven't been told the answer to a question, they can make up any old cobblers.
I'm wondering if this 'other' thing is related to *what* you are selling?... i.e. breakables that aren't covered under S.D. (obviously that wouldn't relate to a book, but probably would to a clock)
The more Simple Delivery gets involved in things, the less and less Simple it becomes.
This is such an unneccesary mess.....

Okay, you get todays prize for understatement of the year for that last sentence!! I have no intention of using SD anyway but after the ridiculous instructions, confusion etc i would no way use it! Feel sorry for those poor souls though who are still unaware of what is going to happen to them, although they should have come on the forum, under all the froth and bluster from us all there is real information to be gleaned, not the sop e bay are sending out.

It's bad enough having this Simple Delivery system forced on all private sellers, but it makes matter ten times worse if it doesn't even work 'properly'...!
And applying it to existing listings really is too much... many will be in the same situation as the OP, having taken a lot of time & trouble to select the appropriate postage methods & prices for their various items.
Now eBay is just barging in, overwriting the postage settings... which is predictably creating all sorts of confusion, & causing problems like 'clock-gate'!
It is like some sort of nightmarish nonsense from Alice in Wonderland... 😸
