Postage and not being able to choose to post myself

OK I'm old and anything that says, 'Simple' on computers usually isn't.

I don't do apps or anything, and had to buy a mobile phone a couple of years ago just to sell on here.

Why will ebay not let me choose normal postage?

It seems to only offer this 'simple' something or other.

Thank you, I've just seen where to change to RM. I've just changed it to royal mail and will see how it goes.  If it doesn't go as smoothly as it would doing it 'the old way' of my just taking the item to the post office and paying at the counter I will not sell anything else on here that isn't pick up in person or by courier.

The no printer required doesn't need you to use the app, if you select that they also send you a QR code via email. That's what I use, you just open your emails on your phone and the post office just scans the QR code from that.

I know exactly how you feel, and I (like so many others) initially were very critical about this not-so-simple-delivery being enforced upon us, when making it optional would have been far better to keep everyone happy. As after all, if it's not broken, then why try to fix it ?? - when the standard system we are all used to and loved for 30 years on Ebay worked just fine, and certainly was/is important to those who are not very tech-savvy such as yourself and myself, and I have never had to even entertain a QR Code in my life prior to Simple Delivery being forced upon us, as I never had nor would ever want to own/use a Smart Phone, then QR Codes is something I was happy to avoid, as Dumb-Phones (phones with buttons, and no internet) can't use that.

So, I had Two choices. 1) Adapt - or - 2) Only Sell Elsewhere. I decided to choose option 1), so adapted.

To be honest, it isn't as bad as I first thought, but that's only because so-far I have not had to sell any more than One item to any One buyer in a parcel. I have read in this Ebay community that this can prove problematic - since each item sold has a different QR Code. Also, I have only sold a Vinyl LP Record and a Video Cassette, and 'Both' of those Ebay managed to get their (Artificial Intelligence) estimated Royal Mail postage amounts right. However, would I want to sell (for example) an autograph in a 14 inch glass frame - and then hope 'Ebay AI' would get the postage estimate right for something of this size, and also factor in that I would have to use very strong packaging, which could work out much bigger than the item inside ?? - Well, I think I may worry about that. But so-far-so-good for me.

So, what I do and advise others to do, is to offer 'Free Postage' to All UK buyers on All the items I/You/Others sell. Of course, there is no such thing as Free Postage lol. That was always a Marketing Ploy by Ebay, when really it's just 'Postage and Packing Included in Price'. So, by doing this is much easier, as I can simply incorporate those P&P fees in the price, and Ebay simply charges me, rather than the buyer - and deducts that P&P amount from the total price, and all the rest I can simply withdraw those funds into my bank account (manually) - which is easy to do, once the buyer has received the item. So, I would advise you (and others) to do the same, and then you haven't got to faff around with P&P cost worries, and as I said, from an Ebay marketing ploy strategy, it makes buyers believe that they are getting a better deal on P&P, simply because it says it is Free (which of course - it is never free lol).

Now, usually we would get a customer win in our auction, or, click buy-it-now and pay for the item, and then after that - we would simply parcel up the item, and click on the Order Details link to see the buyers address, or, we would copy it from the E-Mail we receive once the buyer has paid - and then write it out on the parcel, and go Post Office and it would be weighed, and we would pay the postage costs at the Post Office and they would give use the Postal receipt.

So, what differs between that and Simple Delivery ??

Well. What I do, since I have no Smart-Phone, is, use the second option of using a Canon Printer I have, and when I have sold my item, then I either print the Address Label and QR Code from The E-Mail Ebay sends me, or, you can do it on Ebay itself. If you go into My Ebay and click on the Order Details, you can see that there is a link in there where you can click on and then print off the Address Label and QR Code. You don't really need to print off the Address Label, but I do like to bring that along to the Post Office, as well as The Print-Off of the QR Label, so the Post Office staff member can see that the addresses which appear on the label they print off and stick onto the parcel, also tallies with the address label which I give them. You see, the label they print at the Post Office which they place onto the front of the Parcel, also has my address on there, as well as the buyers address - when it's Royal Mail Tracked 48 service, which I use as my default setting for all the items I sell. Of course, you can decide for yourself as to which service you would like to use for the items you sell. You can also choose between Royal Mail or Evri. However, with Evri service. The Evri delivery drivers are notorious at delivering parcels and simply leaving parcels on the door-mat/door-step of the buyers address, and then simply walking away without even checking if it's been picked up / or / person is even in at that time. So, the chances of it getting stolen, damaged/destroyed in a sudden rainfall (for example) - are much more likely than with The Royal Mail, who are much more professional / competent  about it, and won't do what act as lackluster as Evri Delivery drivers generally does.

Sorry if you not a fan of long posts lol, but I just wanted to be thorough with what I had to say and experienced and advise.

So, in my opinion, it's not so bad, once you get used to it. You can still go Post Office as you usually did. It's just that instead you don't pay any money at the Post Office, and you get to save yourself from writing addresses on parcels

EBay will “recommend” up to 2kg parcel when you get to postage

even though your jacket is heavier you can send with that label and won’t get charged extra

I do not use a smartphone ,I find them too time consuming and intrusive ,so
your method, while good for many, is not an option for me.
