So my payouts are on hold. Not sure if it has something to do with ebay prompting me to give them my national insurance number??
Quite frustrating as the postage costs will come up to over 100£ as i sold a few items as i needed some extra cash for a holiday
Quite ridiculous, may take my business elsewhere after this

I agree it's not personal and some of it is done in an attempt to try to keep the site safe, but why such a heavy handed approach ?
I understand why ebay hold funds from new sellers until they prove themselves and even withholding funds from infrequent sellers after a long absence.
But I do wonder why in this and many other cases whether it is really necessary ?
The OP has been selling from at least July without any obvious problems. Presumably after regular sales over several months their New Seller status has been lifted and prompt pay-outs have been the norm. Then ebay asks for their NINO and immediately holds payments.
Ebay wants to re-verify a sellers bank details = payments on hold.
Re-verify personal details = payments on hold.
The sellers have already been verified at least once so it's not likely they'll refuse.
Even the gap between sales seems to have been tightened making it easier for a seller to slip into holds for being an Infrequent Seller.
There seems too much of it.

Your Sellers Rating is below 10 - eBay's New or Infrequent Sellers Guidelines explain the reasons & the time Seller's Funds are on hold. Once your Sellers Rating goes over 10 then you will be able to request funds to be transferred to you Bank Account.
If eBay has asked for your National Insurance Number, then you will have to provide it.
Regarding postage costs for the items you have sold, pay for the postage from your funds on hold.

Before my payments would be available within 24-48h
The items I have sold state 'processing to be done tomorrow " which means they should be available for a payout the following day which is Tuesday
Using ebay to buy the postage lables is useless as i cant sellect the right insurance cover for the items
Anyway if i cant access the funds on Tuesday ill refund the buyers for the items and i will shut down my account and ill sell elsehwere, plenty of other places to sell on that are more hassle free

As a new seller you will be subject to payment holds:
Payment holds also apply if they require further information from you to comply with applicable laws:
If they have asked you to provide your NI number then the hold will probably remain in place until you do so.

I've given them my NI number. Anyway thanks for the help. Ill call them tomorrow to see whats happening
06-10-2024 11:56 PM
You can't actually call them anymore, you have to request a callback. This link works best:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid
8am to 10pm on weekdays and
9am to 6pm on weekends

I buy straight from Royal Mail on their website as have had trouble with eBay's labels marking them as sent as soon as I printed them out
11-10-2024 7:57 AM
5 days later still on hold, absolute shambles
Won't be selling on here again definitely after this
11-10-2024 9:39 AM
I don't blame you, presumably ebay took you off their "New Seller" list and you were paid promptly for at least some of your previous sales?
You've given them your NI number as requested and are still subject to the Hold ?
Did they give you any reason why ?
11-10-2024 10:05 AM
Yeah thats correct
Rather pay the fees and actually have access to my funds
No reason for the hold. Apparently its meant to be lifted late evening tonight but i highly doubt that. And yes i provided ni number
Anyway, I will definitely stop using ebay for a longer while

Rightly or wrongly I decided I wasn't going to give my NI number to a non-UK run company and deleted all my listings except one.
Opinion here seemed to favour that ebay would go through all private sellers in batches, asking for their NINO, ending their listings if they didn't comply and preventing them listing any more items.
But knowing ebay I thought they might try what they've done to you. Wait for a sale (or several) then Hold your money until you hand over your number.
Glad I reduced the potential for arm twisting to the proceeds of one sale. If my item sells on Sunday 🤣 (I didn't Sponsor it so there's little chance) and they try it on me, I'll close the account and wait the 180 days(?) until they send it to my bank. My NINO is worth more than twenty quid.

Yeah ill be cancelling/refunding the orders if money is not sorted when i wake up tomorrow, didnt send anything yet. they dont even give you an option to add insurance to a parcel when using the ebay nonsense shipping label option
Im not a bank i dont loan money so i wont send jack until i have the funds. In my case the sales are over 1k. Looking at around 130£ worth of postage costs so not covering that out of pocket

Yep buyers are aware... wouldn't just not let someone know. They are okay with waiting
Well if thats the case then ill cancel the orders, refund and delete my account of this shambles website

I'm one of the buyers. And been waiting since the 6th for my order he said he would post on Saturday 12th. And heard nothing since after numerous messages to him. He's now ignoring me with no update. I was patient with him and bought in good faith. For him to give me no update at all. So it looks like he's kept the money and the goods. I've also said he might have to post them first to receive the payment. But having none of it..

You have been more than patient and, especially as they are now ignoring your messages, I would open an 'Item not received' dispute under eBay's Money Back Guarantee straight away and escalate to eBay after 3 business days if necessary.
They sold several high value (£250+) items on 6th October, over £1,500 worth in total, so they are highly unlikely to receive any of those payments until tracking shows as delivered.

I know the wheelset for 300 is what I paid for. And I have gone through eBay. Proper messer. I told him he may have to post the item first
