Payments on hold! I dont have any type of photo id!!

I recieved a message from Ebay asking for my national insurance, which I provided. A few days later I recieved another message asking for photo id or a government approved photo I.d. 

I contacted customer service via chat and spoke to a helpful lady called Rosela.

I explained that I don't have a driving licence or passport due to health reasons, and don't have any form of goverment photo approved I .d .

She said not worry as they expect other forms of I.d ,such as birth certificate and utility bills. I don't recieve any utility bills as I use pre-payment meters for both gas and electric. My water is included with my rent.

For the last few days I have been trying to upload copies of my birth certificates  and bank statements (to see if bank statements are excepted). 

There is nowhere on ebay that you can actually upload your documents!

I tried contacting customer services but get directed to the same page that has a red box that says - please upload a valid goverment I.d with information that matches your ebay account!!! Then under that it says " verify your account details"!!!

I don't know what to do, as I can't find a way out of this!!! 😔

eBay are asking for Photo ID.  Do you have the Photo ID for Voting?

Hi dla_62, thanks for your post.

You can use your birth certificate, and your bank statements. You only need to make sure that the names on the birth certificate, and statements match. Alternatively, you can use the internet bill as well if it is under your name. Also, there is an option to upload these documents, from the page you took your screenshot from, just keep scrolling down, and there you will see the option to upload your documents.

I've just attached a screenshot as well for better visibility. For the "front ID" upload your birth certificate, and for "back of ID" upload your bill. Make sure that the pictures of your documents are readible (not blurry or covered by a shadow or anything like that), and also please make sure that full document is upload (if you cut off part of the document off the picture, the system will not validate it), so make sure to not cut off the corners either or anything like that.

I only have my disabled bus pass which has a photo.

Presumably you don't go by several different names though? There must be a name that you're using now, as an adult, that hasn't changed. 

Just upload the one that matches the name that you registered your eBay account in.

Any identification must also obviously match the eBay account name.

For anyone who does not have photo ID you can apply for  a voter authority certiifcate  (as without it you cannot vote either, so definitely worth having) and use this. 

It’s free to apply. You’ll need:

• a recent, digital photo of yourself
• your National Insurance number

Well, as a married woman my birth certificate and bank statement are not in the same name. Marco says "birth certificate AND bank statement", but Marco is presumably a man, so he may be unaware that most women in the country will have a different name now to that on their birth certificate 😞

This won't be accepted by many companies as photo ID - not sure whether it will on ebay. (But I don't even have that as we use a postal vote!).

Your circumstances are likely very different to the OP's though. Not many eBayers use a birth certificate to verify their ID with eBay. I just mentioned it because the OP said that they had several in different names due to adoption and made no mention of a name change due to marriage.

As long as they have a bank statement or utility bill in their name that matches the eBay registered account name then all should be good.

Birth certs should not actually be accepted as forms of ID

No idea why companies think they prove that someone is who they say they are 

I have possession of about a dozen birth certs, plus half a dozen marriage certs and a couple of death certis. None of them my own, but all legally obtained from General Register Office 

Birth certs (and marriage and death certs) are public documents. Anyone can apply for one, for any person in the UK. I could apply for YOUR birth certificate, perfectly legally, regardless of whether you are alive or dead. Your document is not private and there is no law stopping anyone applying for it. It does not prove your ID. 

I obtained the ones I have for family tree research. Nobody asks who you are or why you want the certificates. 

So am I any of the people whose birth certs I possess? No, I'm not. Birth certs are not proof of ID, and it puzzles me why any companies accept them for this purpose!

So in theory, if I get someone else's birth certificate, and set up an internet bill in that name, eBay will believe that has proven my ID to their satisfaction? 

Doesn't sound like due diligence to me!

Yet a birth certificate (which does NOT prove someone's ID) is accepted? Whereas the government-issued ID that IS subject to checks is not? (I think I saw somewhere that it IS accepted BTW).

Hi I have entered both my birth certificate and bank statement but they are still not being accepted!

I am still getting messages saying I need to update my details!!

Due to the nature of your query, I cannot confirm over here what's wrong for privacy and security reasons. However, if you call our customer service team here, they can tell you what's happening, but it is a very quick fix. They will tell you how to fix it as well, so I'd suggest giving them a call when you can.

Despite uploading birth certificate and bank statements, they are still not accepted!

I might apply for a provisional driving licence, even though I can't drive at least that will be photo i.d !!
