Non Payment

Does anyone else agree with me that Ebay does not do enough to deal with non payers.  They really have to get on top of this problem. If you went to an auction you would have to pay straight away you are not given four days to decide if you want to pay or not.

Re: Non Payment

Ebay has recently introduced pre-authorised payment for auctions (similar to that introduced last year for Best Offers) in order to reduce the number of non-payers so they are in fact doing something.

Check your buyer requirements are set correctly:

Re: Non Payment

Please explain how a buyer can combine items over , say, a couple of days from running auctions?

Or indeed winning an auction then selecting an additional BIN to spread the postage costs ?

Both scenarios used to increase a sellers sales, now not so.

Both were very possible before the Dimprovements were made.

Re: Non Payment

Perhaps if you gave the buyer an unpaid strike instead of leaving an insulting false positive [serious feedback abuse] - that would help cut down on non-payers.

Re: Non Payment

" Ebay does little"

eBay gave sellers the tools to give non-payers an unpaid strike, that's helps to cut down on non-payers.

However the false positive you left is serious feedback abuse and is counter-productive.

Re: Non Payment

I am well aware of the current issues and limitations of the new autopay system and clearly those need to be addressed by eBay.

I was simply pointing out that eBay is trying to do something to combat non-payers.   Whether the autopay system is a good idea in principle is debatable, there will inevitably be pros and cons, and it will work better for some than others.

Sellers can opt out of/into the autopay system so it is for each seller to decide which method works best for them.

Of course, but thats dependant on whether the seller knows that ebay auto opted them into the system in the first place, then keep checking to see they are still clear of it.

As a buyer myself, im looking to other sources to buy from where the heavy handed approach is not enforced as here.

Whilst doing so, it helps to have a good relationship with the sellers and what other locations they sell from, hence not affecting their business.

Re: Non Payment

very unfair when buyers dont pay and e bay doesnt do anything about it you cant even leave a comment anymore to warn others and it still looks like they have 100% positive feedback when they constantly fail

to pay buyers have all the power totally unfair for genuine sellers

Re: Non Payment

eBay do place sanctions on non payers, it's just not visible to anyone, but that buyer.

Two unpaid item strikes and they cannot buy from the majority of sellers for a full 12 months,  if they keep gaining these strikes,  eBay will eventually boot them off their site.  eBay don't like bad sellers,  but they don't like bad buyers either, some resulting in eBay having to make discretionary refunds .

With the feedback issue,  if it was allowed,  it wouldn't help the majority of sellers who list items in a Buy it Now format,  there'd be no time to read the well meaning warning.  Far better to use the tools eBay provide,  open those unpaid item cases,  give out those well deserved unpaid item strikes,  they do have impact.

As a buyer ive received strikes for a variety of reasons, but they NEVER show on my buying account. Where could i view these strikes please.

I know not if it is normal, but on maybe half a dozen occasions, ive phoned CS who  tell me they have removed 'some' strikes but dont tell me what they were for oddly.

Why is this process so secretive?

Oooh now there's a good question,  and one because thankfully I have not had the experience, cannot rightly say where these are logged in,  to show you,  the buyer the num ber of strikes received.

I presume when you are warned to pay within ** days or a strike will be placed,  eBay would then inform you  after the lack of payment a strike is now on your account?

As said good question and perhaps someone who has had these can come along and point to all of us where to find them !  If I find out beforehand I'll message you , if I cannot find this thread ! 🙂

Re: Non Payment

Many thanks for your response.

I get no notice of a strike being awarded from ebay , just the items disappear from my Purchases.

The most common occurrence of receiving a strike( I assume), is when i win / buy up to 5 items from the same buyer over a couple of day period - I request an invoice by clicking the appropriate tab , and also send a message to the seller for an invoice.

From my selling experience, ebays message process is hopeless, but its all there is, unless its a long term seller where by i have an email address.

So i have requested invoice and nothing happens, the days tick by, many more reminders to pay from ebay of course (maybe those messages are swamping the message system 😉 ), then suddenly the items disappear from my Purchases. So unless insanity kicks in and i want to pay 5 fold the postage charge, im left in limbo in an ill / un-thought out process. If the same happened tomorrow i have no idea what to do. Well actually buying on other none afflicted platforms works fine , its just that i feel for long term sellers ive worked with for years.

Re: Non Payment

Seeing as how I don't recall ever seeing a post from  a member saying they have just noticed a strike on their account, I don't think it shows to members anywhere.

The only posts I see are those where the member can't bid/buy and it turns out they haven't paid for at least 2 things in the last 12 months.  The reason for the block is therefore, probably, the invisible strikes.

Re: Non Payment

I would rather have a non payer than someone who decided at the last minute they did not want the item but had to pay for it and therefore returned it on some excuse or other.
