The seller had custom postage for his sale..simple delivery isn’t involved here at all as it neither caters for yodel nor has any price for evri or rm at 2.69
The mystery is why buyer was charged 87p as intended by seller but seller had to buy a yodel label for 2.69
🤷🏼♀️

art/other art is another exempt category so you can send your art prints outwith SD if they’re under a tenner

Hi bathroom @4_bathrooms , I was being a bit pedantic I suppose, it wasn't my intention, just in the spirit of providing accurate and complete information. I'm sure Yodel will I either be welcomed to the SD family or kicked into touch very soon.

You was fine, I was going on about letter size to begin with I think. It is a weird one, when I called eBay though they say it's because of the first part, choosing large letter, even though I then set it to 0.87 delivery option when the buyer pays it switches to a large letter option one but I think I shared screenshots that there is no option for letter size only large letter.
Thanks 👍 👍

I understand that Simple Delivery wasn't involved. What I don't understand is why the OP was seemingly forced to purchase a Yodel label via eBay. The buyer has paid for the "custom postage" so the seller (OP) should have been free to purchase whatever postage they liked whether it was the same service their buyer paid for via eBay or purchased directly from Royal Mail. I just don't understand where the Yodel label has come from.
I'm sure there's either some huge misunderstanding here or a glitch. The screenshot posted definitely demonstrated a postage fee paid by the buyer and a separate (higher) postage fee paid by the seller. Something isn't right - if this was a common issue there would have been plenty more threads or "me too" replies by now.

Ah I'm new ish I just took the only option available on "get pre paid label" button, it's what I usually do, saw it was more but didn't want to effect the shops feedback and cancel orders, was a small order anyway so just took the rest similar down too, but I never knew I could purchase directly from royal mail so will do this next time thanks.

If the buyer has paid 87p for sending a 2nd class letter then it should be fine to go ahead and do that. Presumably, you still see buyer name/address details in the Order Details as before?
In which case you shouldn't need to open/print the postage label Ebay has supplied but you WILL still need to request a postage refund to get the funds Ebay deducted repaid to you.
It's completely bonkers that an item can be both in SD AND allow custom postage too (that's a new one!). SD works in mysterious ways, none of which is simple or easy.

Scratch my previous comment. As described here it looks like there is NO seller refund if an untracked postage service was used.
Does eBay change the SD label fee if it overrides ... - UK eBay Community
In other words, you're welcome to use your own 87p 2nd class postage (even have it paid for by the buyer) but the SD label Ebay has deducted from your sale is non-refundable. Ebay gets to keep that.
Can we call it a Seller SD Fee?

That applies when the seller has chosen "seller pays" for the SD label and they don't use it. It should not apply when the seller has opted-out of SD for a qualifying item that is Letter-sized, under £10.00 and in a qualifying category.
The OP mentioned it was a Yodel label so it could not have been an SD label. The whole point of the opt-out is eBay doesn't offer anything below Large Letter via SD because Tracked 24/Tracked 48 services aren't available for Letter-sized items. The opt-out clearly exists in order for the seller to use regular 1st Class or 2nd Class postage for such items otherwise what would be the point of the opt-out? The only other options for Letters are Special Delivery or 1st/2nd Class Signed For; both of which cost more than if the item was sent as a Tracked 24/48 Large Letter.

Yes, I meant inside SD. There is no refund if untracked postage is used instead of the Ebay provided label.
I understood in this case the seller was able to charge the buyer for standard letter postage at 87p, suggesting the sale was outside SD. And yet Ebay has somehow contrived to charge the cost of a label anyway, suggesting it was also opted in? Perhaps the OP can clarify?
An item should either be in or out but preferably not both. Likewise, either the buyer OR seller pays for postage.
Admittedly, this is not something I've seen before and hope not to see again.

From what @madmanssanity said it looks like the listing was switched to sd because they got “get prepaid label “
but it doesn’t explain why on the earnings sheet it says buyer paid 87p for postage but seller was charged 2.69
well I can’t figure it out so butting out now
but on balance it was probably some glitch and they should get customer services to call them here

Me too. I’ve read that most people aren’t seeing this option. Apparently if your item is under £10 and in certain categories, you should be able to opt out of simple delivery and use custom postage, but it’s not working for me and many others. I called them and they were no help at all. So EBay is trying to charge £2.70 for something I could post for £1.55 as the only large letter weight band it offers is up to 1kg. It’s blatantly ripping off customers. I’m not listing small items until they fix this as the extra cost is making them unsellable.

It does seem to be Ebay both having their cake and eating yours too. Either buyer pays postage or seller does. And if buyer pays then Ebay cannot charge a seller for a spurious and random postage label that isn't needed. Especially if it adds a rule to say it cannot be refunded. I'd cancel all my listings if they tried this trick on me.
Having said that, so often what is presented as a 'glitch' ends up being an 'enhancement'?

Its obviously a cash grab to get you to become a paid trader if you sell lots of items so you pay seller fees again.
Shouldn't simple postage ask you the dimensions and weight of an item you list before just assuming its weight like surely loads of these simple parcels are going to not be delivered because of incorrect postage.
Its a money grab makes no sense what so ever. Either they're getting lots of money from parcel firms, saving on paypal commission since they immediately take it from your balance or its a way to stress people into paying to be shop on ebay.
Simple yeah ok...
