No more Community Chat

From this week's Community Chat thread, for anybody who only goes there when they've got a problem so may not have seen it:

Based on the feedback we received from the community this will be the last weekly chat in this format for some time. We are working on something a little different and hopefully more in line with the suggestions we have received from you all.

It will take some time to work out but we will be back later in the year.

It does beg the question why they don't keep the Community Chat going until the new format is ready to launch.  For all its flaws, it was at least SOMEthing rather than nothing.

Shame on me for having cynical thoughts about the tantalising promise of "something different later in the year", but I'm afraid ebay's conduct over the last year or so has made me very wary  🙄

Re: No more Community Chat

To be honest these boards have also died a death and serve very little use nowadays in my opinion.

I can see them being closed down.      There was a time when new questions were posted literally every 2 minutes and it was hard to keep up..........

As for CS.........my theory is that unless you get through to Dublin  you are usually put through to operatives in Manilla.  I suspect that those operatives there are just some generic call centre used by many other companies.......hence why they appear to read from "the appropriate script".

Re: No more Community Chat

I'm not so sure about Manilla, I've spoken to people all over the world.  The last being someone in germany and occasionally the States.

The boards did used to be better back when they had the powersellers board.  But it all got changed and has gradually died down.  Though to be fair, I think that a lot of it is because of things like social media.  The younger generations don't use forums, they go straight to the likes of Facebook etc.

Re: No more Community Chat

I agree about the powerseller board. The boards may be uncomfortable for ebay, and that's down to ebay's policies and behaviour, but they also resolve so many issues that never reach their customer services, and must save them some time and effort. If there's a problem this is the first place I look and nine times out of 10 there is an answer. Issues are raised here long before we get anything from ebay, if we get anything at all. I'm not on social media, but I bet they get as much of a panning there as they can do here.

I think it was valuedaddedresource who made the walled garden analogy, these boards are quite useful for containing a lot of discontent so I think they will be safe from the chop longer term.

Facebook is not used that much nowadays by the younger generation they tend to go on twitter and the like.

My lad never uses Facebook and i asked him about his younger staff members........nope they mainly do not use it either.   He says its for the oldies nowadays lol

Really?  I was making a point about using social media instead of forums!  Facebook happened to be the first thing I thought of!

Re: No more Community Chat

Was that the one that was closed to all members except Powersellers so 90% of the community couldn't even read it ?

Re: No more Community Chat

There is the Experienced Sellers Board but the last post on that was April 30 - even more hidden than this Board. Its located under Groups [top right corner] then under Ebay Topics.

If you can't see it then Ebay have decided you don't qualify. No doubt that definitely is working as designed.

Re: No more Community Chat

You actually have to request to join or be invited.

However, what on earth is the point of joining a forum, that hasn't had a post sice April?

Though I really don't see the point in your post at all.

I merely stated that it was better with the powersellers board.

"Though I really don't see the point in your post at all."

I can't see the problem - you mentioned the powersellers board and bzmotman followed on by mentioning the Experienced Sellers Board.  Surely that's how forum conversation works 🙄

And to be fair, it was actually a more informative post than your own 🤣

As informative as your own.

Absolutely nothing to do with you, yet you decided to comment anyway.  Well done.

Why is this still "revolving" at the top of the page?

Re: No more Community Chat

Yes. At the time it was catering to a specific type of seller, . Once the powersellers disappeared the board followed to be replace by the experienced seller board - which is hidden away under groups and you have to ask to join. The experienced seller board is practically redundant as its so rarely used.

I'm the OP, so your comment made me feel obliged as the OP to point out that other people's comments are as welcome on this thread as your own 😊

And in any case, it's the nature of a forum that anybody can comment on anybody else's post, isn't it?  It's a bit unfortunate if you're not happy about that!

Clearly it hasn't been removed yet, that's the obvious answer.

👍

So it should be and most can find a way to exchange views politely.

But sadly there are always some that can't reply within the boundaries of good manners and have to dismiss views contrary to their own abrasively with hints of sarcasm and derision verging on rudeness.
