New rule Feb 4th!?

How's this new rule regarding being paid 2 days after delivery supposed to work?  If I post something for example, by normal 1st Class post, ie pop a stamp on and put it in a post box, the person receiving it doesn't have to sign anything to confirm it's been delivered/received, so Ebay have now created a situation were a dishonest buyer claims they haven't received it as there's no proof it was received. You lose your item and the buyer gets a refund plus keeps the item.  Short of videoing myself putting in the post box address clearly shown, I can't think how this will work. I think Ebay don't realise in the UK we have something called Royal Mail, and the fact their delivery times etc are pretty appalling doesn't help.

Without tracking you have always been open to claims of item not received.

The changes mean that without tracking you have to wait 14 days for payment to be released.

Its very annoying though, that if you sell a lot of items and are subsequently paid for them and they are all a basic postage charge of 1st or 2nd class delivery, you have to wait a very lengthy period of time before Ebay release YOUR money. Whats the trigger for a buyer to confirm that they've received an item so you can be paid anyway?

To counteract this issue of items supposedly getting lost in the post I always get proof of posting from the Post Office for everything I sell. It's a bind  sometimes waiting to get served, however on the odd occasion when items supposedly get lost in the post then it's peace of mind 🙂

Why doesn't ebay put a positive spin on this and initiate payment after positive feedback from the buyer? In my opinion they just want to make extra money from the interest held on the sellers fees they hold. Wouldn't it be nice to see transparency that this money was given to charities rather than the shareholders!

Not all buyers provide feedback.

'Why doesn't ebay put a positive spin on this and initiate payment after positive feedback from the buyer?'

Ebay have come up with something along those lines for untracked low-value items :

payment will be released 2 days after the buyer leaves pos feedback, but only for items sold for less than £10.00 (this will cone into force after the 28th of Feb)

No tracking and no feedback means you wait the full 14 days.

New rule Feb 4th!?

This is a nightmare. An example of the problem I am currently experiencing. I sold an item, posted it, tracked and signed, delivered. Royal Mail website states delivered. The buyer has left me pos feedback. Ebay is showing awaiting delivery and hasn't updated the confirmation. This was 4 days ago. I am still waiting for the funds to be placed in my 'ebay balance'. Another item I sold was delivered on Monday, Royal Mail HASN'T updated their site so ebay is stating awaiting deliveryI I got the buyers phone number off order details and rang them. I lied to the buyer and said "now you've received your item" (even though I didn't know that they had of course) "are you happy with it"? "Oh yes, it's great and you packed it well, thank you". I am still waiting for Royal Mail to update the delivery status and then will have to wait for ebay to update (that's if they do) before I get payment. I WANT MY MONEY EBAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ebay have created a "Frankenstein's monster" of a mess with all of these needless changes...

Wait for positive feedback from buyer?...honestly,how often do any of us get any sort of feedback?..i'd say about 1 out of 10 of my sales.

"Simple delivery" should be called "complicated enforced choice which will drive away sellers delivery".

They've gone from "wait til you're paid before posting" to "post now and maybe you'll get paid in 14 days"..!

Glad i've taken my items down (for now)...this is looking like the disaster we saw coming.

As I see it ebay opened the flood gates with free selling with no commission for sellers and there strategy was the long game.

Realising that other selling platforms would take there business away had to try and keep the buyers and sellers going elsewhere. So lull the buyers and sellers with a feel good factor of reduced fees. Then progressively little by little get there fees ramped up gradually bit by bit. If they did this from the start so many sellers would just desert the platform and they would lose them.

Personally speaking I thought it was too good to be true and what a surprise a few months later they have delayed payment and now put on a buyers fee.

I will be looking at other avenues of selling my excess items purchased previously. Including advertising items on ebays owned gumtree platform ( a slap in the face for ebay) 🙂 I am tempted for local collection of ebay items to use gumtree. Like stating in the details ' advertised locally on Gumtree so may be withdrawn at any time'. I would only advertise the item on gumtree when someone wished to collect or directing them to an advert of your own. Saving buyers the ebay fee's 🙂

Ebay don't own Gumtree, they sold it in July of 2020.
